Anyone who has been following the meetings, discussions and emails surrounding the safety aspects of SR159, I'm sure you know this already. For the uninitiated, here's the deal. A couple of months back off duty Metro police officer Don Albietz was killed on SR159 while riding his bike - he was hit by a truck and died of his injuries in hospital. Since then the campaign to make SR159 safer for cyclists and other recreational users has stepped up a few gears.

You can find the whole story, along with an email sign-up, letting you know when to take action, on the website http://www.saveredrock.com .

Here's the important bit. NDoT has given the public until Friday to submit their own comments and ideas to be considered by their contractor Kimley-Horn & Associates. In order to make your comments count, please post you answers to the three posed questions on the blog on this website: http://pubcomment.blogspot.com/ . You will also need to cut and paste these comments into an email to Kimley-Horn so that they have a direct source address (ie. email address, postal address, fax number). The email address is mike.colety@kimley-horn.com . If you'd prefer to fax the form, you can download it in Word format here: http://www.mahgnillig.pwp.blueyonde...omment_Form.doc . Fax it to 735-4949 by Friday.

Thank you to everyone for your thorough input regarding transportation safety along SR 159. Our next public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 3rd starting at 5:30 PM at the West Sahara Library in Summerlin. The purpose of the meeting is to have a presentation on the engineering and implementation issues of the potential improvements and then to have the public evaluate and rank the potential improvements. The agenda will follow.
