View Full Version : Pure Sweet Hell in Portland
Scott B 10-06-2005, 01:45 PM I know there are at least a few other portland folks on the board so I though I would post this here. The movie will be shown on the evening of the 3rd Cross Crusade race.
For everyone who missed the showing of Pure Sweet Hell last year at
nationals or wants to see it again it is going to be in town again.
The Reed College Bike Coop is sponsoring a free showing on
October 23 at 7:00pm. The doors open at 6:30, come and watch
people get muddy on the big screen. The film will be shown in
Vollum Lecture Hall (in vollum center) at Reed College (3203 SE
Woodstock Blvd).
More infomation about the film at www.cyclocrossfilm.com,

I'm looking forwad to the alpenrose this saturday, hopefully without crashing, hillsboro was OK but I had a major wipe out and caused some serious bruising and swelling on my quad. This weeks course should be awesome and the UCI race will be great to watch.
Spread the word on the film,
Scott
Gripped 10-06-2005, 02:08 PM Bentel, Bradway, or Barker?
cycloscott 10-06-2005, 02:15 PM Bring some extra cash. Word from Brian a few weeks ago is that the DVDs will be available for the SF screening on the 8th. If we don't buy them all, you should be able to pick some up in Portland.

Sounds like a nice work out you and kajukembo did earlier. What park are you practicing in? I've been riding on Tabor and the park at 41st and Powell but no riding this past week, I've been nursing my leg injury from last week, that was a nasty off camber before the run up last week.

Actually, I did the workout with Dave Gast (kajukembo = Terry K. from Team O) who is another Master's B racer. We're over in Vancouver and both work for a large tech company that builds lots of printers. There is a nice park on the NE side of the WA-14 and I-205 interchange that is excellent for practice.
I said that I would follow Terry since he always seems to get great starts.
Did you take a spill on that short descent (off-camber) before the bark strewn run-up? Ouch.

My spill was on the off camber before the bark covered run up. I had just passed someone and started with a bit of a poor line and down I went. I did a flip on the way down and landed with my bars in the ribs and the nose of my seat bashed my quad, the swelling is mostly gone now just and angry bruise is left. It is just my second season of cross with no other racing background so I'm still learning. I though my shifter was bent but it turned out a pivot piece had just gotten knocked out so now it is as good as new.
Looks the the weather might be a little drier for saturday, better for watching I guess.

I did something similar during one of the PDX short track mtb series races. I could hardly walk the evening of and it felt evening stiffer the next morning. I was still limping the next week but raced anyway. I predict you will be good to go.

Well, the weather calls for scattered showers and sun breaks. However, the damage was done last night. We got enough rain to make it very sloppy tomorrow. How sloppy really depends on how many more showers fall and whether the sun really comes out very much during the day.
I'm predicting course conditions much like last year -- minus some of the standing water.
Scott B 10-22-2005, 03:35 PM Hey,
The "Pure Sweet Hell" showing is tomorrow night, Brian has a few DVD's to give away so swing on by to maybe win one. I don't think he is going to have them for sale though, but you might get lucky.
