Just got my Scattante '05 CFR Triple Road Bike -- $1,360 delivered (with a 15% off internet coupon).

I am amazed at the quality of the build - the carbon frame is beautifully made and finished. The finish was as nice as the top-line Treks I inspected. The seat post (which I thought I might need to replace) is of satisfactory quality.

The bike was well packed for shipping. Assembly of the bike took about 90 minutes.

I have taken two "get adjusted" rides and the thing rides great, the 56 frame perfectly fits my 5' 9 1/2" body and style. The ugly Korso stickers on the wheels are just plastic sticky labels -- and they peeled right off, leaving a nice clean look to the wheels.

BUT one IMPORTANT thing: Many folks have complained of the fork vibrating on this bike. I noted this immediately on my first test ride also. The problem is the head set is not properly tightened as it arrives from the factory. Reading posts, I think a few other people have figured this out, and many have not. Tightening the headset is not an obvious procedure, unless you have previously installed and FSA IS headset.. The shop at REI adjused it if for me at no cost and showed me the technique. (I was going to explain the process here, but think it safer to have a shop do it -- it is a five minute adjustment, but critical to get right.)

Everything else on the bike came very well adjusted - I only need to tighten the brake cables a bit. I could not find a build flaw with very careful inspection of the entire bike.

In summary, this is a great bike at an incredible price. I am completely satisfied (as are many other folks who have posted to this forum). It rides great. Stiff and straight. Climbed a rough canyon road today, and on the way down the carbon frame soaked up the vibrations and rough spots. The ride was "almost" as smooth as my full suspension MTB. Again, amazed.

Highly recommended. This is a bike to put on your short list if you can stand having an off-brand name painted on the frame. Supergo shipped immediately, delivery in two days FedEx.

Congradulations on your choice of bike. I bought one of these bikes in 2003. I now have approx. 2000 miles on the bike and have had no problems. I only experienced vibration in the front fork one time, but it was a cold day and I was shivering.

LOL- my teammate is broken at least two if not three of these things. It was the scandium/carbon one. Definately NOT recommended.

Must have been something good about the bike if he bought it three times...?

BTW, this is a full carbon monocoque frame.

One purchase, two warranty replacements. Now they don't make it, and there may be an issue I heard. We will see.

Hopefully a better contractor knocked out those full carbon frames.

I believe the maker of the CFR frame is Martec out of Taiwan. They also make the Kestral Talon (regular, not the SL). The CFR is the same frame as the EPX carbon, and there is another company that uses this frame, but I can't remember the name.

Follow up review on the bike --

I bought the Scattante CFR '05 six weeks ago, and now have about 500 hundred miles on it.. I am totally pleased.

Rides great.

The ultegra group works as it should, which is to say very smooth. Not one squeak yet from the brakes, they are silent and efficient. After initial setup, just tightened the cables a little bit (the initial break-in stretch), no other tinkering has been necessary.

Stock wheels and tires are fine, tires with no visible wear after 500 miles (one flat so far, a sharp thin piece of wire).

The stock saddle was uncomfortable -- I changed it immediately for a v-shaped "tool saver" saddle (same saddle I use on my MTB, totally comfortable, my bum can go 5 hours on it with no discomfort).

In summary -- no complaints at all. I really love this bike, and really enjoy road riding the canyon roads, after years of MTBing. For me, it was a good first road bike choice and good fit.

The basic wt of the bike came as advertised at about 17.8 lb. Riding weight -- with my little repair kit-tube-pump pack, shimano 520 (relatively heavy MTB) pedals, and a water bottle cage -- is still just under 20lb.

I do not think I would be displeased with this bike even if I had paid $1000 more (my delivered cost on-line was $1360), though of course at a much higher price, I would expect some sexy labels stuck on the thing.
