Anyone have an opinion on the Ibex X-Ray 'cross bike (especially the frame and fork)? How would it compare to the 03 Redline Conquest I currently ride?

I have had my Ibex for 3 weeks now and I love it. Have not raced it yet but have put alot of training rides on it. I have upgraded a few parts but I liked it better than the redline. Plus the guys at Ibex are very good to deal with

I was on the website and I noticed that the frame is spaced at 135mm. I have a frame that is 135mm and it is a pain in the arse. I am roadie and have a bunch of wheels that I can't use and now 2 rear wheels that have 135mm axles and needed redishing.

At least, I didn't. I too have 135mm spaced frame, but the wheels I had laying around were 130mm (WH-540s). I just changed the axle to 135 and added 2.5mm spacers on both sides and I was good to go. No problems so far.

I have had my x-ray for almost a month and it is incredible !! Light weight, top notch parts spec.
great customer service. I have ridden it everywhere and raced it once, 7th/25 in my first ever cross race .The price is so good..That you can afford to build yourself a nice set of spare wheels with 135mm rear spacing you can dedicate to cross and not chance tweaking
your fancy boutique roadie wheels when you use them as spares. But seriously this bike handles very well, the carbon fork is solid and light, Wheels are excellent , weighs
under 20 lbs, performs incrediblely, and is $899.00 USD

the x-ray probably isn't that much different. they're both high value bikes. workhorses, if you will. unless you're going for a certain colour scheme, you wanna run discs or you have a surplus of 135mm rear wheels, might as well just stick with the conquest. if you want a carbon fork, you'd probably be better off buying an aftermarket fork. this is my second year racing on the x-ray and it's been able to take everything that's been thrown at it. if you desire a better platform, save up for a ridley or an empella.

David, you liked the IBEX, I'm thinking of buying one this next year..did the 135mm spacing throw you at all?

I do indeed. The 135 has worked fine for me so far. It's funny though because I have already been looking at changing out several parts on it. Although I must say the stock components work great but there are a few things I wanted to change

congratulations thats awesome. I understand the bike stuff being put on hold. I ended up selling my custom mountain bike recently to help pay for my other ride

I've had an X-Ray sport since the summer. I put fenders and lights on it and use it mostly for commuting. I've done a few 35-40 mile rides on it and I love it. It's just fun to ride. Ibex does a great job packaging the bike for shipping. The frame is good, just be aware they save money on the tires. The tires that came with it are only $13 at REI.

I have about 800 miles on the bike so far and it's good. It's comfy and moves when I want it to. You can't beat the price for the amount of bike you get.

I've had my X-ray cross rig for almost a year now. I don't race it (not much cross in my neck of the woods); original intent was for something to do/ride in winters as a cross training (no pun intended) workout. Not a great off-road rider (I fall down really well...), but this bike is a great ride both on and off pavement. Throw some slicks on it and just go; it will keep up with the pack (the extra weight is just Good Training). My off road riding, though, is often through some really crappy stuff though, including stumps and plenty of mud and sand. The Ibex moves through and over it without a hitch. I hose it down and am ready for the next ride. Other than not liking the original wheels (funny that I chose to buy some Neuvations to run on it, which is what comes stock on the road bikes now), I have no complaints with my Ibex, the price, the 105 gruppo, etc. Simply a sweet deal for a bike that can take some punishment. Hope this helps.

Now if they'd just drop a couple pounds off that road set up...
