The short of it is this: I've done this ride several times over the years and today I put in a personal best: 19.53 mph/avg over 102 miles. I was gunning for a sub-5 hour ride, but the combination of tired legs plus killer cross-winds (30 mph gusts) and some serious rolling hills in the last 15 miles did me in.

What helped me big time was that there were a lot of riders who opted to do the full century and many of them were fast. It was a matter of getting in the right pace lines.

And least I forget ... kudos to the volunteers and staff who make RFTR the great ride that it is.

I raised $890 for cancer research and had an experience I'll not soon forget. Oh ya, I finished my first century. When the wind piked up to 30, I stopped worrying about my time. As it was, I barely had enough left to make it up the last hill.
I'm glad to see your computer came up with the same number as mine. The map and all the signs indicated the route was 99.8 miles. I was beginning to think I had entered the wrong circumferance, because I showed 102 as well.

I must have been close to you, crankee. I was in the saddle for 5:05:30 - closest I've come to a 5 hour century. It was a very nice ride; didn't seem like quite as many people as recent years, but I could be wrong.

6:06, with a pretty damn hilarious bonk at 70 miles. Noticed I was all the sudden getting passed by 40 mile route riding fat chicks on mountain bikes. Looked down and I was doing 12 mph on a downhill! A gu and a bottle of gatorade and I was back in business.

Great time, great event!
