I'm a lifelong Campy user, so I don't have much experience with Shimano. I do have last generation D/A brakes on my TT rig. The Mavics feel more powerful than the Record brakes I have on other bikes, including both older dual pivot and newer Differential brakes. The Mavics are very stiff, brake very well, and weigh about the same as the current Record Differential brakes. I first tried the Mavics when the Campys were 40 or so grams heavier than they are now. Zero-G's weren't around yet. I'd tried Cane Creek SL's, and hated them. If I was building up a race bike right now, I'm sure I'd try the zero-g's. Anything else, though, and I'd probably go with the Mavics. Great brakes. redrider 10-29-2005, 02:57 PM Best looking and lightest brakes this side of Zero Gravity's. And performance is on par with Campy Record. One thing though, is that they don't have a quick release lever. Which would make it an inconvenience for the S brand users. Leads me to believe that Mavic targeted or favored the Campy audience, depending on how you want to look at it. Is it any wonder Record now offers a version in black? The M5 brakes are also stiffer than all of them according to the tests on their website. |
