Make a left at this fork and you'll be going towards West Sedona. This is a great road ride all the way to Cottonwood. Large shoulders. You can ride into Chavez crossing in west Sedona and enjoy the crescent moon views of the red rocks. The weather will be uhmm awesome. Avoid going right at the fork because that takes you into a narrow canyon road called Oak Creek which will be a winter slick road with NO shoulders. BTW. While in Sedona stop at the Bike-n-Bean and have a cup of joe. Say hey to Tony. He is a wealth of local riding information. Back to the OP - Yes, head west from sedona, east is a death wish.... rroselli 11-10-2005, 01:24 AM "May be heresey but I heard the bike and bean got sold" Well that rumor is true. Called Tony at b&b and he stated to fear not! The new owner is a guy from New Jersey who has deep pockets, luvs to ride and connections. The line up of bikes will improve as will the exposure. 360 tours is on board and of course a new website soon. Just think a website. Wonder if those things will ever catch on. The previous owner was very picky to whom he sold the shops reputation to. My take. If Tony is happy the rest of us should be. Sprocket - Matt 12-22-2005, 06:48 AM Just out of curiousity... Is there ever really a good time to do 89A... ??? I'd love the chance to ride from Flagstaff, down to Sedona, across the valley and up into Jerome... Have lunch then come back across and up to Flagstaff again... Is this ever possible or is the traffic so bad on 89A now that I'd be hit and killed by a tourist? 24hourssolo 12-29-2005, 11:58 AM Just out of curiousity... I've ridden 89A from Sedona to Flagstaff several times without incident. I leave from Sedona EARLY (5am) to avoid tourists on the road as I climb up to Flag. On the return to Sedona, riding back down the canyon, I'm usually moving as fast as the cars so I am less concerned about getting hit. wiles 01-26-2006, 05:44 PM After trying all sorts of roads and rides, I find myself now riding Page Springs Road most often. Today only 4 cars passed me from behind. Average for the past year is just less than 6 per day each way. 89A up to Sedona is great too. The side trip to Red Rock State Park down Red Rock Loop Road was blissful today. I felt so good I continued past the end of the pavement and rode the packed gravel for about a mile and finished the loop coming out at Red Rock High School. It felt so good I did the whole loop again before heading back to Page Springs Road and Cornville. Hardly a car. Crystal clear blue sky. Temp in the 50's. Mmmm. Not bad for January. As nice a 3 hour training ride as I have ever done. Let me know if you want to ride.... |
