This is for all of you who think that a cartoon character jersey/Primal Wear is cool (you know who you are)...

Agreed. Andy at nyvelocity.com has his taste spot-on. (Hi, Andy. Elder here.) I only hope that our fellow RBRers get the picture and learn from it. Primal jerseys are NOT cool. (But I know I'll get slammed for saying this--as I have previously.) Oh well.

To each his reach, as I always say. As tall as some people are, they just can't quite seem to reach high enough.

The fact that the second link has a sleeveless jersey wearer as a "Do" will immediately call into question the judgement used in this Dos and Don'ts list in the minds of many RBRers. :)

Don't: World Champion jersey you didn't earn.
Do: Australian national champion jersey you didn't earn.

DO wear a sleaveless jersey if you have the tan and the pipes to pull it off, like Mario Cipollini.

DON'T wear a sleaveless jersey if you're Kate Moss thin and "bubonic plague" pale, like Mickael Rasmussen.

I enjoy a cold brew as much as the next guy, although I am leaning more toward red wine these days. But what is the deal with all of the Beer and Ale jerseys?? Even Bud Light billboards advertising beer and biking. Now correct me if I am wrong but the two don't really seem to go together all that well. I mean I have never tried hammering for 2 hours and coming home to slam a few back but it seems counter productive. Maybe one for the road no?? What do you think?

As a writer, I appreciate when someone is able to use the phrasing I was searching for.

"And unless you're Bill Murray, don’t try to pass it off as ironic or funny."

The funny part is this isn't the first time you've posted this jibberish. (or the second or the third!) You take this stuff to heart!

Folks we've all graduated Jr. High, wear what makes YOU comfortable for christ sakes!

That's the most intelligent post I've seen on here in awhile. Thanks for adding some maturity to the discussion. Come on people, does it really matter that you wear a replica yellow jersey because you think it's a cool looking jersey but you didn't earn it? Personally, I'm wearing whatever I want and don't care what anyone thinks of it...

Agreed, it is easy to see from this thread why most people think cyclists are full of themselves. It takes a lot of estrogen to be so fashion perfect, glad I am not.

I'm gonna buy me one of these. Is this a bad fashion decision?

I will never buy any product, especially clothes, that advertise a companies product. To a manufacturers point of view, it's probably his best/cheapest form of advertising. It's like buying a car. I tell the dealer to remove his decal ad from the back of my car or pay me for advertising space. How many times do you see people walking around with Coca Cola or Bud on t-shirts, polo shirts etc. You want me to purchase a shirt with your logo on it and parade it all over town like a walking billboard, then I feel I should be compensated for advertising your product.

I've thought for a while that RBR should start a forum dedicated to fashion. Call it "Queer Eye for the Cycling Guy."

"He's wearing a sleeveless jersey and has a saddle bag. Eeeeewwwwww."

I think it started as a mountainbiker thing. Go out and huck a few logs and chill with the bros.
It just doesn't fit in with road biking. I can't see most dedicated roadies training with HRM's, watt meters, supplements, following yearly training plans, going out for a 60 mile group hammerfest, then pouring vats of alcohol down their throats while they share stories of how low their bmi is.
A certain element of casual road riders find the shirts appealing because they send the message that they don't take their sport too seriously and they are a "regular joe".
Very rarely are they worn out of any heartfelt dedication to the particular brand of microbrew.

F McG,

With your selection of bikes and jerseys, I'd say there's at least some taste there by my reckoning. Say "hey" to Laurie, Ginger, and the wee one (Was it "Sophie"? Please don't be insulted if I've got it wrong--been a while) for me. Happy riding into the NYC winter.

Cheers,

Many would disagree and say, "a cigarette." And hey, keep your sordid bedroom details to the Sex Forum!! There are children on this board!

Saw a guy at the top of a steep hill taking a smoke break at the Hilly Hundred. Saw another one laying by the side of the road possibly suffering from a heart attack surrounded by SAGs with ambulances on the way. Saw thousands of people bedecked in anything imaginable riding bikes. True that the hammerfest folks get out early to avoid all this. Fortunately it is a matter of personal choice or circumstance that there is place for everyone in cycling who chooses to partake. No matter how eclectic or traditional you are, there will always be someone who comes along, flaunts convention and hands you your a$$.

That site is definitely amusing.

However, the way I see it is, you're wearing spandex -- so it doesn't really matter what's printed on it. I give more props to the guys that wear ugly jerseys and are proud of it.

Even the young and foolish eventually acquire some respect for tradition. It is the old fogies that are the real problem. BTW, anybody know where I can purchase a Fat Tyre jersey?

Thank you very much! Incredible as it may seem as I was slowing down to turn into the the school at the Hilly Hundred a rider passed me with one of these on. As I use their label as my avataar I took it as an omen. I was wearing my red long sleeve jersey that day, my usual dull attire but had seen so much color and expression from riders in this two day event that I felt like expressing yourself with whatever you felt was right for you was justified.

nothing.

We spent a little over six hours suffering in western North Carolina yesterday for 107 miles. A few of Highland Brewing Companys finest were part of the post ride refreshment. I would describe everyone riding in our group as "serious". We all race, train with a hrm Blah Blah Blah....Believe it or not you can still hammer and enjoy a few post ride beers. I will use any carrot necessary to get up a climb that is almost 15 miles long..
