Got some Campy Record Pro-Fit's from them a few years back - quick delivery, no problems. They have excellent prices on Campy stuff, beats most Euro shops even. Will be getting a crank from them soon.

I've done a little business with them, mostly small stuff, tools, small parts. Always been prompt. Never a problem.

one more vote - I've bought once from them over the phone, they understood my poor english fine, they shipped fast, no problem. But check ebay first, because you'll find better prices there (yes, on new stuff).

Bob Lictkton has been around bicyles for a long time. In Illinois he is legendary as Gary Hobbs is on this site and on the west coast. Going to his shop in Oak Park is like visiting a shrine. He will talk your ear off about bikes if you ever talk to him on the phone or at the shop.

I think it was Bob I talked to. We discussed my potential wheelset for 30 minutes - my weight, my riding style, high vs low spoke count, etc..... Regrettfully, I bought wheels elsewhere. I have ordered parts & clothes from them on numerous occasions. Good people. I just wish they would update their webpage - its' kinda drab.

Licktons in oak park,IL. I bought a vitus 992 from them back in '93. Very knowledgable, been around awhile. Would probably be a good choice, compared to many of the fly-by-night internet operations out there.

Excellent...I've purchased several items over the years from Bob: Kreitler Rollers, Campy stuff, etc.
Good service.

I recently ordered tubes, a cable set and a cassette. The folks on the phone that take your order also work the shop, so you're talking to somebody who knows the product.

They shipped promptly and UPS decides NOT to ring my doorbell and get a signature, nor leave the box on my enclosed porch, thus the package was lost.

Bob Lickton personally called me and dealt with the problem. I was impressed.

I've ordered on other occasions, like their prices, like their product.

I'll chime in here with positive comments about Lickton's. Good service, knowledgeable folks.

bought a complte build kit with campy grouppo a few years back from them. Their price matching wasn't quite the 110% difference, more like a negotiation and I think all I got was really a free Astrale cpu. Anyway the guy can really talk! and he is quite the liar.

wanted some ritchey logic parts (bars, stems) which he apparantly didn't have instock so he gave me a line like ritchey stuff is crap and they are going out of business which is why stock is low. Ritchey is still around and doing quite well! Total liar!!!

So, have no worries about actually getting what you pay for but I wouldn't listen to a word coming out of Bob's mouth. I see no reason to shop there. Plenty of other places with better pricing and selection.

try aebike.com, totalcycling.com, 11speed.com, bikbuster.com, excelsports.com or even coloradocyclist.com. lickbike is close to the last place I would buy from. the last place I will not mention so as not to give free advertising to.

Tour comment about lickbike understanding your English made me laugh. Your English here on RBR is just fine. Now, when I imagine your voice, it sounds just like mine with just a slight French accent. I realize, however, that the true state of affairs may be different. I have lunch with a group that includes a retired medical school professor who emigrated to the US from Hungary in the 1950s. The professor writes perfectly and elegantly in English. He has taught two generations of US medical students. However, even after 50 years in the US, his spoken English is very hard to understand. In any event, my one transaction with lickbike.com went very well and I am not surprised that they understood you, even if your spoken English is as hard to understand as my lunch partner's.

Someone has got to have something bad to say about them.

BTW I too have been a satisfied customer of Licktons (I purchased MarkS new/used Gunnar from Licktons many years ago).

A few years ago I ordered some wheel parts from them intending to build myself a new wheelset. They sent me a built set of wheels depriving me of the pleasure of spending several hours building up my own wheel set.

Alas, they did a really good job of building the wheels and they didn't charge any labor for the build.  :D

Even I have to give them two thumbs up!!!!

They went the extra mile once for me to track down some missing special clamp screws for my old Park double bike stand!

I have ordered many many times from them, they are great!!

I've even been to the shop. It's weird, mostly a counter with a computer terminal so you can decide what you want, then ask for it (the back room looks HUGE). They do have some other stuff on display.

In any event, I've always had very good luck with them.

I've gotten items from them, wheels, trainer, small tools etc. Always a pleasure to deal with. The type of shop I wish was on my corner. :)

If you want Campy stuff, I think Eurobikeparts.com is the best place to go. Best prices, fast delivery. I ordered a full Record group on a Wednesday, and had it by Friday. Dom (the owner?) answered all of my questions very quickly.

I compared prices after reading this thread, and Eurobikeparts is lower. So yea, maybe lickbike will match prices, but who wants to go through all that when the cheaper place has service just as good.

I ordered a Shimano UN72 BB to go along with the Sugino 110BCD crank they also sell. They shipped me a UN53 (the box looks the same) instead and I was upset. Of course they refunded the difference in cost, and for the next time recommended that I order a Phil Wood BB and they wouldn't make the same mistake with that one.

Oh, I do have another negative thing to add.

As part of my order of a few years ago I ordered a set of Vredestein TriComps which generally have a good reputation. I thought the color seemed a bit off but put them on anyway. They didn't last 100 miles. Tore like paper on San Diego streets. I'm pretty sure the set I got was sooo OLD Lickbike probably got them free from some other shop's trashbin.

Again, there is no reason to buy from this place. Better prices and selection elsewhere.

After my positive post, I just bought a Phil Wood BB from them in an attempt to save a bit of $ vs. buying direct from PW.

I ordered it online, then called the next day to make sure it was expedited. After much rustling of papers and shouting back and forth, was assured it was in stock and would go out the next day. Didn't show for a week (which did include the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday). So I called to see what's up? "Oh, we're waiting for your cups and one of the tools." What?! then why did you tell me it was all in stock? "Oh, we expected the shipment from PW but it was delayed due to the holiday."

Don't tell me something is in stock...unless it is.

So Lick is not all good. But sure, everyone makes mistakes, so I might use them again, just not if time is an issue.

I called Lickton"s for a price quote on a record group.....I was asked for my phone # and expected a call that day.....they called me 3 days later with a quote!!!! I had already ordered from Reparto corse .com at a cheaper price. I live nearby and hardly ever buy from them.

I've done lots of business with Bob for more than 20 years. I bought my first serious road from Lickton's in 1984. It was a Merckx with Campy SR and yes it was orange.

Have ordered parts (mostly wheel components) several times over the past 1-2 years. Every experience has been positive and their customer service is the best that I've come across among bike retailers. Excellent prices. Great selection. Good advice. Reliable shipping. What's not to love?

Good prices and honest owner. I saved a bunch of green.
Local shop wanted too much for the same configuration bike
including sales tax

A couple of years ago I ordered an Ultegra gruppo including wheelset from Licktons. Over the phone Bob gave me the impression that he had all items in stock and the order would ship as soon as the wheels were built. A week and a half passed and with no big box on my front porch I gave them a call and they said that the rims had just arrived and the order would ship as soon as the wheels were built! Another thing...Bob wanted to sell me a Chorus headset. I told him I wanted a 1" Black King and his response was "we don't recomend King"...duh, presumably because he didn't have one to send me!

Nearly 4 weeks passed and I finially recieved my order. All was well til I was riding a centuary a few months later and I heard a funny sound eminating from the front of my bike. It seems that a nipple on the front wheel had worked it's way off and was rattling around inside the rim! Luckily I had a spoke wrench and other necessary toolage to do a roadside repair and then tossed it in the truing stand when I got home to fix it permanantly. "Certified wheelbuilder" my a$$... that was the LAST time I let anyone else build a wheel for me!
