This morning was the implosion of the old Baptist Hospital in Memphis, TN. A group of us had planed on riding down to watch. After the show, we would ride on downtown and out on Mud Island for breakfast. I wound up not being able to ride because my daughter wanted to go, so I drove sag. I have always wanted to watch one of these implosions live. It was over so fast that it was almost hard to remember seeing it. I’m glad I took pictures.
Picture #1 the hospital, #2 the first blast, #3, 4, 5 going, going, gone. #6 the bike group was able to get away quickly. I got caught in the dust. #7 breakfast, #8 group shot, # 9 all that’s left.

I can't believe that they destroyed an historic Elvis shrine. Where will the faithful go to worship?

I like seeing all the pigeons bailing out in the first detonation shot. I had the same problem with the dust here when I made the mistake of watching them blow up the Mapes Hotel. I didn't feel too bad until someone told me that the place had literally thousands of pounds of pigeon crap in it and we were likely inhaling almost pure pigeon enhanced air. Yuck.

...and they were saying on the news last night that they figure it'll take at least a year to remove all the rubble. That seems like the perfect job to me--blow up stuff, and let someone else take care of the mess.
