Did about 15 miles with the family through some of Raleigh's bike trails. I'm very proud of the girls...9 and 7, and they did 12 1/2 hilly miles on Wal-mart 1000-lb bikes. They lost it towards the end, so the little woman stayed with them at McDonald's while I went and got the van to pick them up.

Today, I did about 50 miles. Fall is in the air! Took some pictures...
Bike path bridge, the girls wading in the lake, a couple of nice path pictures

A nice tree in a neighbor's yard, just leaving the neighborhood; my bike in front of a barn; and a couple of 'road to the horizon through the trees'...

Big rooster, some berries on a bush (in the town of Wendell's 'Perennial Club's Yard of the Month'!), a Neuse River bike shot, rolling fields, and a 'power lines to infinity'...

Cool things on the rides include:
Yesterday's, just the time spent with the family.
Today's, I stopped to adjust my brakes (a little rubbing noise), and a Sheriff's car stopped as he passed. The deputy motioned a thumbs up through the back window, checking to see if I needed help. I returned the thumbs up and a wave, and he waved and headed on. I got up to 42 miles an hour on the steep downhill near the house...primo! I got a Harley salute (I grin and nod at all motorcycles, 'cause I know they're doing the same thing I am...enjoying a ride on two wheels!). A guy pulled about a 64 'vette convertible in near me, he was checking under the hood. As I passed, I said "Nice ride!". He thanked me, and then, I'm just about positive he said "Your's, too!".

The killer Doberman came after me again. I was on the opposite side of the road and it was clear, so I locked'em up in front of the house...I'm not going to be chased by a monster dog every time I ride. I got off, told him "NO! Get back to your house!" A truck was coming the other way, so he started to turn back, then got to the white line and started barking again. I told him to get back to his porch before he gets hurt. The truck stops, it's a couple guys with MTB's in back. They grin, I say "How's it going? I can't let him think he's got me! I'll never be able to ride through here!" He wasn't bothering me, I will convince him to leave me alone, but they just stayed there as I headed out, blocking for me...that was nice of 'em!

That's about it!

Later,
Steve

Thanks for the reminder about the Triangle. I lived in Chapel Hill for 7 years and loved the long spring and fall seasons. Now that I am back in rainy Seattle, I find it ironic that there are so many more cyclists here and so fewer days to actually ride.

Glad to see another NC cyclist. I am down the road just outside of WS.

Great post and those girls did an awsome job keeping up with Dad. Keep it up.

There is nothing cooler than riding with the kids.

Thanks for sharing.

Always fun to watch kids enjoying the ride and the fun stuff like the river along the way. My dad used to love to take us out on our old banana seat bikes to places like that.

Also, really pretty country out there. Love the fall colors.

Hey, thanks for the pics of NC. I recently moved to Portland, OR after growing up in Raleigh and spending almost a decade in C'Hill. Some of those roads look familiar! Enjoy the beautiful weather you guys are having!

Take care,
