It would be great if anyone who has experiences with Tufo Tape could post some info on it . It seems like a great way to simplify a time consuming process.

In a nutshell, it is...

I still prefer traditional glueup methods... and you still need to pre stretch the tire casing... and it's still gonna be a bear mounting some tubies on some rims... but pretty much works as advertized. I keep some on hand for emergencies and bouts of laziness.

There has been more than 1 person here complain that it took the base tape off when the tire was removed. It seems Tufo tape should be considered a permanent addition to the tire. This may be OK for use with a Tufo tire, but doesn't make sense on any tire that is repairable, or on any wheel that you might be changing tires on frequently. If you use Tufo tape, you should leave that tire on until you throw it away.

I had a rear tire roll on me in a crit, will not be using it again.

It goes on as advertised. Easy (assuming tire is stretched), fast, and mess-free.

I found that small amounts of the glue would squeeze out between the tire and rim over time. It wasn't a problem just something I noticed. I could run my finger along the edge of the rim and little beads of dried glue would come off. Again, no problem, just an observation.

Getting the tire off was a bear. The strip just would not let go. I'm tempted to say that although it was great for tire install...it stunk during removal.

I very surprised that someone rolled a tire while using this stuff.

Did the base tape come off and leave the tufo tape on the rim? Was it a Tufo tire? Please give us details!

Oh, I just remembered something-Continental claims that only Conti glue should be used on any of their 'better' tubulars (i.e. anything but a Giro...) due to the fact that other glues will tend to degrade the bonding of the base tape. I assume this warning also includes Tufo tape.

It was a Tufo tire, it appears that the tape delaminated i.e. a part remained on the tire while the rest was on the rim. The tape did not look like it covered the rim high enough on the sides. BTW it cost me a new CF rim $$$.

Was this the standard white tape or extreme tape?

Extreme

I thought it worked great. First of all, use the extreme no matter what. There's no point, right? Plus, installation is easier, at least according to Tufo's website. For the white tape, you can't put the tire on and peel off the tape backing from underneath, which (I think) is the best part about the tape.

Use the extreme, put it on the rim straight, and don't peel the backing off, put the tire in place, and pump it up to inflation pressure. This will make sure everything is where it should be. Let the tire down a bit - 1 bar, or whatever it is Tufo recommends - and peel the tape off without adjusting or moving the tire. Pump it back up and it's set. Getting it off isn't nearly as hard as everyone makes it out to be; or it wasn't for me, at least.
