But the film is R-rated due to a smattering of violet and sexual scenes I hate those films with a smattering of violet. Why not more purple?

didn't see that typo...in any event, the students in question were high school aged and likely had seen an R-rated movie before--or at least were mature enough to watch such a movie.

If the teacher had shown a film with a little violence, the parents probably wouldn't have cared.

Some of the most memorable film screenings of my teenage years were in a similar English class. We watched flicks like "The Graduate," "Walkabout," "Citizen Kane."
