View Full Version : uh....no ss at nationals Pelley 11-19-2005, 07:34 PM dude, i was just looking at the schedule for nationals and there is no single speed category. whats up with that? p lo 11-19-2005, 07:59 PM when the ss craze first hit (and i do have a ss mt bike) i thought the cool part was racing the regular catagory on a ss and passing people and actually choosing the bike because it was fun and sometimes faster. seems like having a seperate catagory kinda dilutes the coolness of racing on a ss. maybe i am wrong on this one and just don't see the light. but hey, i guess if they offer the class and it gets more people out there... FTM 11-19-2005, 09:56 PM The the reason I like the ss category is that I can do two races in one day. I ride both races fixed and don't want or expect a separate category for fixed gear bikes. Pretty soon they'll have separate races for them mountain bikes... oh well, nevermind. Ride whatever put a smile on your face and makes your heart feel like it's about to explode. single1x1 11-20-2005, 04:23 PM The the reason I like the ss category is that I can do two races in one day. Usually the ss class is run with other groups, like master b's regular b's or women, there just scored seperatly, if the race shows the finish times you can still see how you did overall. I'm also racing fixed, my first fixed season, and really like it but I don't expect a class for fixed ssers either since I'm usually the only fixed racer in the Seattle area. I thought about doubleing up today,. but decided against it. cycloscott 11-20-2005, 05:06 PM Why are you expecting one? It's a 'cross race. If they have the time to add a SS category, consider it a bonus. If not, then race with the gearies. Last week, our NorCal 35+ district championship was won on a SS. He raced the Elite race two weeks early and took 2nd, on his SS. If you put slicks on it, do you expect to have a SS category at road races? jroden 11-20-2005, 05:54 PM I think single speed bicycles are welcome in all categories, as long as they have a working brake and adhere to UCI rules where mandated. You could also ride a three speed, I'd suggest removal of the fenders and kickstand, they tend to rattle a lot. If you turned the limiter screws on your derailer, a four speed is also possible. If it gets muddy enough, we may all be on one speeders by the end of the race. Hey......can you ride a geared bike in the SS category if you promise never to shift? :D FatTireFred 11-21-2005, 09:14 AM Why are you expecting one? It's a 'cross race.
