Man dies after possible hit-and-run in Fremont

FREMONT - An unidentified man died this morning at Eden Hospital in Castro Valley after a bicycle accident in Fremont that investigators are calling a possible hit-and-run collision.

The man, who will most likely have to be identified by his fingerprints, died at about 6:20 a.m. this morning, according to the Alameda County Coroner's Office.

Around midnight, passersby discovered the man lying unconscious next to his bicycle on Mowry Avenue east of Overacker Avenue in Fremont, the Fremont Police Department reported.

The Fremont Police Department responded to the incident at 12:39 a.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim may have been riding his bicycle east on Mowry Avenue when a vehicle struck him head-on and then fled the scene, according to the department.

Damn I hate it when drivers cant hold there line. Sorry to hear about another bay area cyclist going down.
I have to admit it tho, you all have a great death to rider ratio. Meaning for the number of cyclists in that area vs the number of drivers with your total accident/fatality total shows that for the most part you all have done a great job in making the public cycle aware. Out here in Vegas they dont even cover the cyclists deaths or hit and runs. We avg about 1 death or serious vehicle vs. cyclist accident every three or four months. God I would do anything to move back there. Matter of fact right now I have to appendages on ebay.

Man, I ride that road frequently. Pretty scary stuff.
