View Full Version : CX frame gone to paint
llerryt 11-23-2005, 05:46 PM First off, great CX forum! I've been off of any bike for the past 8 months due to a surgery so I've had a lot of time to go OCD over a new bike. Long story short, I decided on a Badger Cycles lugged CX bike to ease back in. Man, am I ready to get back on a bike....
Ronsonic 11-23-2005, 06:19 PM Cool bike.
Furnace brazed it in the fireplace did ya?

No, he got the Iraqui-roadside-inspired "debris" paintjob. Needs more shrapnel in the TT, tho.

Is that a lugged straight blade cross fork? Can't tell from the pic. If it is...give us some more pics and details if you have them please!
Nice ride.

Yes, it is a lugged straight blade cross fork. I'd post a better pic, but I don't have one. After I get it back from the painter, I'll post one.
It gives the bike a totally different look with the straight blades.

Ya know, it was difficult to ship it off. I just wanted to forget the paint and ride. I would have to pass on the shrapnel though

Nice looking bike, but from the pictures it looks like your rear brake cable stops are underneth the top tube, or is it actually out of the way some how?? That might hurt some on a runup having the cable dig into your shoulder.
I also agree about the fork, like the look of the straight blades.
get well soon

Its a 395mm A/C lugged fork with 47mm of offset. Will clear a 32 with room to spare. Here is a link to the only other pic I have. We will have better pics when its back from paint next week.

llerryt 12-15-2005, 07:22 PM Back from paint and I couldn't have asked for anything better.
Hopefully I'll have the chance to throw my hat inthe ring and race a few cross races next season.

Zotto 12-16-2005, 03:36 AM I have always considered myself a function over form kind of guy. I have never commented on what another person’s bike looks like before. But dude, that looks incredible. Enjoy.
cliff 12-17-2005, 07:17 AM what's with the cable guides at 6 o'clock on the toptube (ouch!)? I love lugged steel-are those rivendell lugs?
TOZOVR 12-17-2005, 08:31 AM You guys beat the snot out of yourselves on the course, fall, grinding bones against frozen mud, but you fear a brake cable between your shoulder and an 18 pound bike? Weird. :D
I understand not putting them there, but I wouldn't worry about them if they were....
lanpope 12-17-2005, 08:17 PM That is the best looking cross fork I have ever seen!
Sweet...Sweet bike! Setup looks perfect also.

Ronsonic 12-19-2005, 09:55 AM That is just gorgeous. Almost too pretty to be a cross bike.
Absolutely love that belligerent badger badge.

outofthesaddle 12-19-2005, 01:54 PM a bike that nice. Like one of the earlier posters, I'm also a function over form guy but that bike looks awesome.

It's the stops that are the problem. Other concerns are cables catching on clothing thus being less smooth to put down the bike. Cables rubbing more on the top tube and wearing through the finish.
TOZOVR 12-19-2005, 03:16 PM I know what you mean, but sometimes I think we think a little too hard about minutiae instead of the soul of the bike. It is what it is and it's fantastic.

All good points. Rob at Badger Cycles did mention that the cable placement might be an issue if I end up racing Cross a lot or seriously. Of course it's the choice of the customer (me.)
This bike is a CX bike, but will used for everything from road, gravel roads, fire roads, cross racing and grocery getting. At that point, I just like the smoother rear der. cable routing, keeping the cables away from the grit and grime of the road (gravel, dirt) and the little wheel above the bb that the front der. cable spins on.
Again good point and I might end up regreting it if I end up racing a lot.
