I have/had 2 spesh computers, one a pro and another elite. The pro has cadence, climb gradient, temp, altitude and alt gain. Very cool features. The elite is more basic and to tell you the truth, I forgot what the standout features were since it broke about a year and half ago. It was only 2 years old when it broke. Well, the pro is starting to malfunction too. The temp and altitude features jsut quit. The pro is about 3 years old and cost $100!! I am supposed to replace $100 computers every 3 years??? Or $60 computers every 2 years??? What a crock of shi'ite spesh puts out!! I will never ever buy anything with a spesh logo on it for the rest of my life!!! I have cateyes on my MTBs that are 5- 7 years old and not a single problem!! Ever!! Fcuk specialized and their pure crap they put out. Rant over. Ride ON!!!

Well with sweat, and stuff (road bikes get it more than mountain) I can see three years being reasonable. Still sucks though.

Not to defend Specialized - I have no experience one way or the other - but have you replaced your battery? Also, you might consider cleaning the batter contacts inside the unit.

Wish it was. All the other functions still works except for the altitude functions and the temp. Both batts are fairly new anyways. I know I am being a little harsh on the big S as they do make some good gear and bikes. But all in all, I am done with them. There are other companies like Cateye (stuff still made in Japan) that works good and lasts a long time. As for bikes, Italian or American!! Ride ON!!

My first pro had a knack for resetting itself on good size hits by the front wheel. This drove me nuts since my overall cumlative mileage kept resetting back to zero. It also wasnt accurate at all with altitude. My LBS took it off my hands and gave me a brand new one since it was within the first year (11 months old I think). I think I remember reading something about the eariler units having problems and maybe the newer unit had better firmware or whatever. I do know that the new unit works great. The altitude feature while still a bit of a joke does seem alot closer to what it should be and it does not have the reset problem. I got one solid season on the new unit and I have no compliants. Best feature besides the standard stuff is the temperature feature. I dont use the cadance feature which is wired.

I worked for a specialized dealer a few years ago, and the computers we sold then were all crap. I cannot count how many we sent back to specialized but it was alot. I had 3 myself and they all quit or did not work right, so i finally gave up. I dont know about there new computers, but there are plenty of qaulity computers out there so i would stay away from specialized. They make a great bike, and you would think something as simple as a bike computer would be easy, apparently not

...2 Spec computers (Elite model) and have never had a problem with them.i like the look and function of them and plan to buy another if I need to but I don't think that will be for awhile.

It seems pretty weird to me that the specialized turbo elite I had was design with a socket where the cadence lead had to be plugged in. It seemed very fragile like it would snap anytime and it did after 2 months of usage. No more specialized computers for me since...

Me thinks that the original posters real problem is between the handlebars and the saddle. :)
