Hello,
Since I am graduating from college in January I am thinking of taking a vaction to the southwest in late January/early Feb to ride my bike. I am wondering if anyone can point me towards any resources similar to thecyclinghouse but less expensive. Also i don't need all those perks, in fact I'd probably camp if they had a shower and it was a safe area.
Thanks in advance.

You might try scoring a bed in some college student's house. Seriously. Place an ad in a local college paper.

If you camp, the area near Borrego Springs, Ca. is pretty good riding. We visit there in winter and have found great riding there. The State parks have pay showers and places for filling and dumping your tanks if you have a camper vehicle like we sometimes use. There are pay campgrounds. Camping, unimproved, has never been a problem for us, security wise, either. Weekends can be dangerous on some roads due to Off Road vehicle enthusiasts racing along the highways with large toy-box trailers, headed out or back to desert playgrounds. Pretty stark, staying in the desert and just riding, but it does give you 'focus'..
