Do you train when sick? I've been told if it is in your head like a cold it's ok but if in your lungs it's not ok.

Riding with a headcold is deemed OK, personally I don't do it because I don't like riding like poop. ;) Everything from the neck down is a nono, as is fever. Exercise when you have below neck symptoms and you risk damage to the lungtissue or even inflamation of the heartmuscle. The Carlster 12-24-2005, 12:31 PM um, one may think this is only a tad relative. Sometimes you can train through feeling like S, and sometimes you cannot. This just might depend upon the person, the level of sickness, the weather outside, and your level of fitness and how OK you are about taking a [possible] few days off. gosh! wzq622 12-24-2005, 01:38 PM Personally, I think it's better to recover first. The faster you recoup, the sooner you can train properly. Mr. Versatile 12-24-2005, 06:40 PM Personally, I think it's better to recover first. The faster you recoup, the sooner you can train properly. Me too. I assume that you're not doing this for a living. If you're not, why risk your health? When you're not feeling well, chances are excellent that you're not thinking well, either. IME, when I have even a slight head cold, it effects my balance a little, my hearing, my breathing, (nose stopped up), and most definitely my attitude and ability to concentrate. I don't need to be on 2 skinny wheels at speeds up to 30-35 mph, dodging traffic when I'm like that. Get well first. Ride later. bc165 12-27-2005, 11:47 AM Do you train when sick? I've been told if it is in your head like a cold it's ok but if in your lungs it's not ok. i've had a cold for the past ten days and i started doing 30-40 minutes on the trainer after about the first 4-5 days... feel better on the trainer days... and recovering fairly quickly. went out for 1.5 hours yesterday and felt good... bundled up and rode fairly easy. remember to drink lots of liquids, and if you develop a dry cough, as i often do when i have a cold, get some cough syrup with dextromethorphan to suppress a harmful cough. fleck 12-28-2005, 08:47 AM if you're not feeling good do it inside... get on the trainer or rollers and start slow. if you start feeling worse, stop. This is why you are inside, you don't have to ride home. Just get off and take a hot shower and rest. If you feel alright or even start feeling better increase the intensity. Just be cautious and aware of how your body is responding. You can ride out some colds but you dont' want to knock yourself out out for a week. |
