I was able to try out the new Tufo Fluxus tubular cycloccross tire at the most recent North Carolina Winter Cup race this past Sunday at Hobby Park in Winston-Salem, NC. I was totally impressed! The course was included some very wet fast sweeping turns on muddy grass, muudy red clay and some pavement. I was racing in the 45+ class. Dwight Wyatt and I had a 2 man break off the front starting the first lap and all the way to the finish. He was racing on Tufo Elite tubulars. He and I both agreed that I had a major advantage in the sweeping wet turns as I was able to carry a lot more speed through. Also they seemed to self clean much better than the older design. This course did not have any significant rocky or rough sections. I didn't notice any unusual wear from the paved sections which included going up (and then down) a Soap Box Derby hill (hard out of the saddle hammering on asphalt).

These are definitely worth considering.

They are spendy so I'm worried about durability. Are the sidewalls beefy like the old Tufos? The tread pattern looks great and your comments seem to bear this out. Thanks for the review.

I know there are some rocky trils out there. Care to ride a bunch and let us know how they hold up? :p

The tires are much more supple than either Tufo Prestige or Elite and more like a reallsy supple cotton casing like a Challenge (or maybe Dugast can't say cause I have never actually held on in my hand). The rubber is very tacky.

I will see how they hold up under racing - but a $92 a piece - these are race tires only. I train on Tufo clincher tubulars. Since I quit using regular clinchers last year I have never flatted during practce - and with clinchers I had flatted up to 3 times in a 90 minute practice session.

I've already seen them for $77.50 per tire at www.worldclasscycles.com I've never bought anything there so I can't vouch for them. My initial reaction when these came out is that we'd seem them at decent gray market prices in short order.

If I can recall on previous orders they have free shipping and orders over 'x' amounts?
correct me if im wrong. I also recall ordering one evening and they were in my hand the next day before noon. They are the largest distro of tufo in north america and have better than normal prices on all tires.

the reason that link doesnt work is because cycles is mis-spelled, took me awhile to figure that out.

if we bought 10 of them the price is only $67.92 a tire. Still a decent amount but better than $80 per tire.

Kajukembo and I are in Portland and that's what we plan to do -- pool some folks and make sure we get at least 10 in the order.

I've heard of some riders that the Plexus is a good Tufo, but not yet a cheap Dugast.
I'd love to try the Plexus, but only when it comes in 34mm. With my 185lb, cross is hard enough as it is already :-)
I'd be interested to see an old fasioned tread with the new casing, see if that would be faster still on the less technical courses. For dry courses, I seem to be the only one craving 35mm Diamonds...
