KETCHUM, IDAHO (January 17, 2006) - Team CSC, the number one road cycling team in the world, will be sponsored through 2006 by Smith Optics, the leaders in optical performance and innovation.

Team CSC is led by Ivan Basso, the man many expect to win the next Tour de France, and will be racing throughout 2006 behind the lenses of Smith Optics’ Reactor, Threshold, Axis, and Theory sunglasses – a foursome of a premium interchangeable lens sunglasses which specifically address the needs of cyclists.

“Based on all my experience with Smith – I highly recommend their glasses and we all look forward to winning even more races with them,” said Basso.

Smith Optics has sponsored Team CSC since 2004, utilizing the relationship to fuel product design and support the highest level of bicycle racing.

"We are very happy to continue our great collaboration with Smith. They have a superb product that we are proud to use,” said Bjarne Riis, Team CSC director and cycling legend. “Their impressive range of high end glasses and their unique attitude towards design and technology cover all of the needs of a world class cycling team.”

In 2005, a successful campaign with Team CSC saw Smith Optics-sponsored riders sporting the two most coveted prizes in cycling -- the yellow leader’s jersey at the Tour de France and the pink leader’s jersey the Giro d’Italia.

These outstanding successes have Smith Optics gearing up for another exciting season with professional cycling’s number one team.

“Our involvement with Team CSC has allowed us to challenge ourselves both in terms of our technology and design,” said Greg Randolph, Smith Optics Bike Marketing and Promotions Manager. “Bjarne is extremely concerned with having the highest quality product available to his team, and we are proud to fill a key role for the finest team of professionals in the world.”

FUELED BY FEEDBACK FROM TEAM CSC AND OTHER TOP CYCLISTS, SMITH OPTICS INTRODUCES THE NEW REACTOR

KETCHUM, IDAHO (January 19, 2005) – Fueled by feedback from the world’s best road and mountain cyclists, Smith Optics is unveiling their latest interchangeable sunglass design: The Reactor.

The Reactor caters directly to avid cyclists and endurance athletes, and answers the call for a performance sunglass that can meet their demanding standards.

“Field of vision, comfort and wind protection is essential for our top athletes. To get this right, we relied heavily on our team of road and mountain cyclists,” said Eric Carlson, Smith Optics’ Director of Product and Merchandising. “Their honest feedback was essential and the result is the Reactor: our strongest interchangeable performance sunglass to date.”

The Smith Interchangeable sunglass collection – a group of performance frames which offer multiple lens tints – was launched in 1995. The original design emphasis of the line was on peripheral and downward vision, based on feedback from the athletic needs of the era.

Addressing the needs of today’s athletes, the Reactor was developed over the last year in coordination with Ivan Basso and Team CSC, the top ranked professional road team in the world, as well as other top road and mountain athletes. The final result was a cycling piece that satisfied the Smith team’s rigorous standards, while raising the bar for everyday riders as well.

Specifically designed to improve field of vision, the Reactor features a raised top brow for unobstructed sight in performance situations. Extended 9-base lenses wrap comfortably to provide seamless peripheral vision and excellent wind protection.

The Reactor is 25-percent lighter than comparable frames, thanks to ultra-light and durable TR90 construction. Combined with adjustable nose pads, and hydrophilic Megol on the nose and temple, the Reactor provides solid comfort as well.
The Reactor is available with two different lens profiles. The Reactor Max is designed to offer optimal coverage for medium faces while the Reactor D-Max features a deeper lens profile for maximum coverage on large faces. The Reactor is Rx compatible with Smith Optics’ ODS (Ocular Docking System) gaskets.
