What ever happened to our country as the shining city on the hill, one that other nations envied for our principles and truth. When we were an example to others and supported democracy and justice for all, not just the rich and connected. When we could sway and convince others by our commitment to the truth and justice for all, not just the well heeld and connected. I think our founding fathers would be sad at the State of the Union, and the world. President Eisenhower warned us of the militaryt industrial complex, he should have taken it a step further and warned of the capitalism structure, stripped of it's checks and balances. God bless america and all the peoples of the world who still believe in truth and justice.

I think our founding fathers would be sad at the State of the Union, and the world. To quote myself, I've long felt that the Founding Fathers, upon seeing what we've done with their creation, the scene at the end would be reminiscent of the sorcerer, the apprentice and a room full of little brooms with buckets.

I don't think the U S you outlined ever existed. The period of time following WW2 saw us emerge as a super power, a benevolent super power to those we had assisted in the aftermath of the war. That never buys you much a generation or two later but resentment. Everyone is back on their feet with their own agenda.

We still shine.

We still shine.

The only thing we shine is our responsibility.

Charlton Heston.... wtf did I miss? I go away for a few days and when I come back we're referencing Puritans?

The city on a hill myth was here long before the US was, well, the US. It was bunk then, and it's bunk now.

Do some homework on that date above cuz that is precisely the time and date when the world began to take America for granted. Once you know what happened on that date, you can figure out the rest.

As for the light and shining city etc, we're out to save our own necks these days and it's called War. We lost 3,047 Americans on 9/11 and our subsequent actions of strength tick some off (and who cares?).

November 9th, 1989...

That's the day before my wife bought her first Coca Cola -- swear to God.

There are a lot more nations now than there used to be, so maybe it's just a math problem.
