View Full Version : Lets See Your Tan Lines!
As anyone who spends a great deal of time outdoors knows, especially cyclists, we get really bad tan lines. Therefore, as i sit here bored, i thought, why not start a thread to discover who here on RBR has the worst or wierdest tan line or sunburn mark. To all entrants interested in entering, we need photos, mere words cannot descride the tan line in itself. I'll kick things off with 2 of my own, not the best, but bad enough.
wankski 02-02-2006, 01:36 AM hehe, it helps being "predisposed" to skin pigmentation.

rogger 02-02-2006, 06:28 AM It's fricking february! Upside down ozzies have tanlines this time of year, the rest of us is freezing their tender parts off, praying for the first signs of spring. Tchh, tanlines! ;)

We're currently sporting the latest in rust lines.

Ask me in June or July -- especially after I have forgotten to put sunscreen on my bald/shaved head and you can see the vent pattern from my helmet.
MikeBiker 02-02-2006, 07:16 AM Tan lines are good, burn lines are bad. My tan lines have faded away and will not return until spring.
The Walrus 02-02-2006, 12:10 PM Tan? What's that? The closest I've come to tanning in my five decades is an accumulation of freckles. I don't dare start shaving my legs, because without the hair, I'd have absolutely no color there at all.
Curse those redheaded Irish ancestors....
Dwayne 02-02-2006, 12:12 PM No tan here in Pa just yet. I can show you some windburn. Give me about 4 months and I will show you some nasty tan lines
I'm in PA, too, but don't have problems with tan lines for some reason. I do wear a lot of sleeveless jerseys, so maybe it blends in a bit more.

cmatcan 02-02-2006, 01:09 PM if you bring this thread back up in july or august i'll have some good stuff to show ya, but i am at my palest this time of year!
Four words: SUNBLOCK IS YOUR FRIEND! :) Tan lines are one thing, but those look like some pretty painful burn lines.
Cheers,
Ari
mr meow meow 02-03-2006, 03:06 AM I do. After years and years in the sun I've developed a farmers tan line on my arms which won't go away. I usually use sunscreen but that only goes so far, so I'm generally tan by June. The current line is faint and my arms are by no means tan but it's definitely there.
I always seem to forget that i live in the southern hemisphere. Where it is currently summer, where we use metres not miles and where we use $AUS as opposed to your $US, i get in so much trouble on here sometimes bcos of that. Yeah, i know, they are bad tan lines, i swear i went out that day and it looked like raining, i finish with burns 4 hours later. Australian sun, always good fun. I know someone will re-post something like this in a couple of months so its relevant to you US guys.

NE US in the winter doesn't lend itself to tan lines :(

I don't get it.
Antonelli 02-03-2006, 10:45 AM Thats nothing, you guys. My tan lines are like, PERFECT lines... no fade whatsoever. And the difference in skin color is really drastic!
Oh, and I live in Phoenix ;)
soulsurfer104 02-04-2006, 02:37 PM anybody can have tanlines on their thighs and biceps, but the sign of a true cyclist is tan arms, dead-white hands and proximal halves of fingers, and tan distal ends of fingers. i had that whole thing going on, but today i rode without gloves and it's faded a bit. i feel significantly less freakish, and i'm not sure i'm enjoying my decreased freak status.
....oh, and tanlines from helmet straps are worth bonus points!

i don't know what's creepier, the fact that the original poster made this thread, or that, since the last post was in september, you must have book-marked it

hahah i had all of those last summer, oh and ther are holes in the tops of my gloves (yano, like the velcro straps leave a hold in the upper middle... go look at gloves at the LBS if yours dont have any holes and youll see what i mean. so i had pure white hands and then a 1cm or so wide circle of tanness int he middle of my hand. and then also the helmet lines. and hair tanlines on my forehead (heh... got a haircut before school started. that was hard to live down.) and glasses tanlines! haha you forgot those :D
i tan really quickly so i get really bad lines, like first ride of the year ill get about 8 shades darker, and for the next month ill get 6 or so shades darker per 2 hour ride.
right now im tanner than most people are during the summer, and im literally about 8x lighter than i am during the summer (looking at my desktop wallpaper, me looking like a moron on my bike w/ no shirt, gloves, etc... though i do have shorts on...)
OH AND SOCK LINES yayyyyy

Heh. Mine usually last for months after the shorts season ends, but right now they're finally gone. Riding in jacket, gloves, tights, balaclava, etc., you don't get lines.

I inspected my "tan-lines" in the shower this morning. They are still visible, but really more of freckle-lines than tan.
