Maxxis has announced that it will sponsor the largest professional cycling event in North America, the first-ever Amgen Tour of California.

The eight-stage tour will take place February 19-26 in ten host cities, and will encompass 700 miles of riding over a route that includes wine country, redwood forests, and the Pacific Coast. Sixteen internationally renowned teams will compete in this world class race, including Health Net presented by Maxxis. With nightly coverage in prime time on ESPN2 and expected attendance of more than one million, the tour should receive widespread media attention.

Brad Klipping, bicycle marketing coordinator with Maxxis, is enthusiastic about the new sponsorship: “Maxxis is extremely excited to continue supporting the growth of professional road racing in the United States. We believe that the Tour of California will become one of the most respected and anticipated tours of the professional calendar. The Tour of California will give domestic racing fans another chance to view firsthand the strategy and incredible endurance that leads to victory, and Maxxis is proud to be part of that from the very first year.”

Maxxis is the official automotive and bicycle tire of the tour and is also the presenting sponsor of the eight Lifestyle Festivals offered in the finish cities. The company will also offer a dazzling stunt show at each festival from members of the DK BMX Stunt Team.

Maxxis Sponsors 2006 Tour de Georgia

The 2006 Tour de Georgia has everything for the serious racing fan: world-class UCI Pro cyclists; a route that showcases the south’s natural beauty in spring – and Maxxis as a sponsor.

Maxxis has announced that it will again sponsor the Tour de Georgia, to be held April 18-23. The race will this year venture outside Georgia for the first time, with a time trial set for Chattanooga, Tennessee. Ten Georgia cities will serve as hosts for the six-stage contest. And as in previous years, hundreds of thousands of spectators are expected to turn out for the top pro cycling event in North America.

A sponsor since the inception of the internationally renowned race, Maxxis will also once again offer Maxxis Madness, the Team DK stunt show that dazzles spectators at the finish line of each stage, and the Maxxis Feed Zone, where riders slow to get the food that will sustain them through the day’s race. Maxxis will also serve as the official tire of the Tour.

Proceeds from the Tour will benefit the Georgia Cancer Coalition, a network of organizations and individuals who work together to fight cancer.

“The Tour de Georgia is the most anticipated race of the year at Maxxis. Although Maxxis sponsors countless races, and we continuously live vicariously through our sponsored athletes, Georgia is special. It captures the beauty and emotion of our great home state, showcasing it through the lens of an intense weeklong competition. The Tour de Georgia has earned its reputation as the best stage race in North America. At Maxxis, we can’t wait,” commented Bicycle Marketing Coordinator Brad Klipping.
