Well, I'm moving to the Galveston area in April due to my hubby's job. Anyone from the area or know anything about the area? How's the cycling scene? Bike lanes? Shops?Unfortunatly we're not going to be able to visit before we move, so we're trying to rent a townhouse over the internet. Are there any parts of the island to avoid when looking for a place to live?? Someone help me!!! :p Ok, I'll stop freaking out now. Thanks! :)
there are a lot of rough neighborhoods in galveston.
get some guidance from the people you will be working with.
the island is as flat as could be.
plenty of wind since it is on the gulf.
the island is about 25 miles long, giving you up to 50 miles roundtrip.
cross the san luis pass bridge to the south, and the next island is 12 miles long, giving you about 75 miles round trip. gulf view for much of this ride. sometimes both gulf view and bay view at the same time.
the main road doesn't have a great shoulder for most of it. if you are bold you can handle it.
in the summer, there are alot of tourists driving crazy up so be careful. but crazy drivers are everywhere.
Check out bike houston. http://www.bikehouston.org/ your 45 minutes from houston closer if you can find a group in clear lake. lived there in 1990. suppose to be a bike trail in houston.
