Here I am, planning out my next retro project. It's a bike from late 70s. I would like to use Super Record crank to keep the 70s look, but I would like to use newer stuff for the rest of the drivetrain.
So my question is: will Super Record crankset work with 9spd or even 10 spd drivetrain? I will use downtube shifters if that makes any difference. I know C-Record works since that's what I have on my Gios right now. I know Super Record use 144mm chainring and newer Campy use 135mm. What about the thickness of the chainring? Same or thicker for the older stuff?
BTW: If I can't find a Super Record BB, any modern stuff that can work?
Thanks! I promise this next project is gonna be even sexier if I can pull it all together.

Will Super Record crankset work with 9spd or even 10 spd drivetrain? I doubt that SR chanin rings will work with 10S set up -- the chain is too narrow. I would imagine that it wouldn't shift very well.

I will use downtube shifters if that makes any difference. DT shifters are getting harder to find. If you want to use DT shifters, you'll be llimited to 9S. Campy doesn't make 10S DT shifters.

If I can't find a Super Record BB, any modern stuff that can work? You'll be limited in choices. Campy switched a symetrical axle in the late 80's so they won't work with a SR Crankset. Phil Wood would be a good choice.

You can get 144 mm BCD chainrings from TA that are 9/10 speed compatible, with ramps and pins for quicker shifting. I'm not aware of a 10 speed indexed D/T shifter, but 10s bar-ends are available.

Your only choices for a BB are a Super Record / Nuovo record cup-n'-cone, or a Phil Wood sealed bearing. In other words, you are restricted to the two finest bottom brackets ever made. Bummer, eh?
