There's a post over on General talking about que sheet creation. Someone asked if anyone knew of a site to exchange route maps in Delorme Topo USA. I suggested we should ask you if that's something RBR would like to provide.

There's two main programs that people use to create route plans. Delorme Topo USA and Microsoft Street and Trips. Could you allow those file types to be uploaded and attached to a post? People could then do a "save as" off the attachment and bring the file into there own version of whatever program and have a route map.

Just a thought. If it caught on it could become a popular post type and attract people to the site.

Thanks
Scot

What do you think, Gregg? We could share ride routes, we could give suggestions for rides for out-of-town RBR's when traveling, etc.

It would also be cool if I didn't have to type 5 characters here.

I agree. Exchanging bike routes can lead to cool discussions. Moreover, it also helps ensure that good routes do not get forgotten. Routes that pack a maximal amount of different climbs could be researched and shared.

What format are these files (Delorme Topo files and MS S & T files) in?

LMK.

I just sent an e-mail to Gregg at
gkato@mtbreview.com
with a MicroSoft Street and Trip File attached. Could one of you with Topo send Gregg a sample file so he can see the file format.

Thanks

I'm one day into the program and like what it has, but I don't like the interface.

When I figure out how to export a map I will. I've figured out how to to a route with a profile (and all profile info). The exprts seem to only be huge BMP files.

There may also be a text/application file that is small. Anyone know? Otherwise, wiat a day or so, and I'll figure it out.

We at DeLorme are very excited to see this discussion because we are beginning to set-up the same type of exchange forum. Our trail exchange forum is just underway but if you visit http://forum.delorme.com/ and scroll down to the Topo USA 5.0 section you will find the thread. You can download the routes and GPS logs of other users and and import them right into your Topo USA 5.0! Please don't forget to post your own to aid in the growth of our exchange. Also, feel free to download applicable road rides and post them here.

Thanks,

DeLorme

This is exactly what I've been hoping for. Thanks for picking up the ball and running with it DeLorme!

My only reservation is that once everyone finds out my road riding routes they will secretly wait by the side of the road and ambush me...j/k

Come on guys! (and gals) let's start posting. Who knows, maybe you'll find a new riding partner or maybe you'll find a route for a new ride in a new area or state that has always peaked your curiosity.

..now only if DeLorme would've taken a suggestion I gave them years ago about a feature to create videos from the 3D view in Topo so we can get a "fly-by" view of a route just like they show us in them there fancy TV programs that cover races like the Tour....wouldn't that be a sweet toy to spend hours playing with.

thr0ttles,

This does not fit your suggestion exactly, and it is admittedly out of the price range of most users because you need additional equipment, but we have teamed up with RacerMate. Check out this web site for more info. http://www.computrainer.com/topo.asp

Also, check this site for a review.
