I live in Andover and am returning to road riding after laying off for a few years. Aiming to actually start racing if things work out...
Anyway, from the sounds of your post, it looks like you may work in Andover. I actually work in Boston but if you are ever around on the weekend, I know the roads in the area very well.
As I'm just getting back into things my pace is kind of mellow 17-20 mph, and even that may be on a good day.

There are many great routes from the Andover area if you head north. I just moved a bit north of Andover and am in cycling heaven! I would suggest you try to make a weekend ride with one of the Northshore cycling clubs: CCB, Northshore Cyclists or Essex County Velo. You'll get some really great route suggestions. Good Luck.
