I performed a search on this and have not really found that much helpful info w/in the threats...

Does anyone use Nair for Men for the legs and how does it work ? How long does it take to apply and how often do you do it ?

Just shaved for the first time this season and it took me about 1 hour.

Thx for any feedback. :)

I started using nair 2 years ago because I have a lot of peaks and valley in my legs......bony knee caps and the such I found the Nair for men a couple of weeks ago and gave it a try. I love the cool roll on applicator. It works great for me. I leave it on foe 4 minutes the take a shower and off it comes. It's been 1 week and I still do not need to shave yet so it holds up good.

I used it when I first shaved to get rid of the heavy stuff. Ever since, I've gone to the blade (Mach 3). Didn't like the smell (though not as bad as the womens version) and got a rash. Not sure if that was the Nair or because I wasn't used to it, but the blade has worked better for me.

Although using a blade is a bit more tedious, Nair is downright awfull. I tried it and no kidding it very well could have been industrial strength boat stripper the way it seared my tender legs. I find with a can of Skintamate women's shave cream and a mach 3 shaving takes maybe 20 min, but is getting faster every time. Some guys will swear by the Skintuition device-it has a blade surrounded by moisturizer (looks like a blade embedded in a stich of deoderant) but it's rather expensive.

unless you're a really good rider I find most riders look like posers with shaved legs.

tried it about three months ago. the stuff stinks--smells like new jersey on a summer night. awful. switched to nair for women in the pink bottle. smells a little better. i leave it on for about six minutes, then sort of scrape it off with whatever is handy--spatula, ruler, folded copy of velonews, etc. i usually end up having to shave places i've missed, so the whole process doesn't shave that much time.

but nair can napalm your legs if you are sensitive to the chemicals. my wife liked my results so she tried it and ended up looking like a burn victim for two days. beware.

I tried some of that crud I bought from the internet/infomercial, and it did not remove even a single hair. Yes, I followed all directions. I stunk and turned my legs red, but that's all.

Mach III and Edge Gel -- the only way to go.

Haven't tried the stuff "for men" but the regular stuff works just fine for me. I hate the smell, but that's a small price to pay to avoid shaving every day or getting nicks and cuts.

I just don't think that it works for some. But if you have softer hair and tough skin it seems to work fine. Back in highschool I found it worked after I fell asleep one night at a buddies house. He found some in his cupboard. Woke up in the AM with one hairless leg.

Yeah, I have a female friend who says even the men's formula doesn't work for her. She's saving up for laser removal.

That thing takes barely minutes to use. It's awesome! The chemical stipper or cream / blade mthods are history!

dont get so much as a drop on your balls or you'll wish you were dead. I hated shaving after doing it for so many years that I finally tried nair for women about the time it came out. Believe me the stuff they have now is much better but remember keep it away from the boys. Shaving the boys is a whole nother ball of wax but must be done (for me anyway's) for ultimate comfort and cleanliness.

If your a rec rider there is no need to shave, if you do a group ride once a week no need to shave. Shave only when you're race means something...

Why? Why not just let people do WTF they want? I think it's mostly aesthetic, at least it is for me. I don't like my hairy legs. And I don't race. It never occurred to me that someone else would give two thoughts about my legs.

agree that there is enough conflict about cycling without getting into debates about shave vs. don't shave. if you want to shave, shave. if you don't, don't. there are no shaving rules.

but i'm surprised that as a mt. biker you don't advocate shaving. long before i started racing MTBs i would shave regularly b/c it's a lot easier to clean dirt, blood, rocks, sand, horse crap, small woodland creatures, etc, out of my gashes if my legs are smoove.

I don't care who you are or how good, all you need is one case of road rash to see the point of shaving. Even MTBers' scars heal better without hair.

It's talk like that that gives serious riders such a bad name...

First time I used it...worked great...used it again about a month later...burned the crap out of my legs...had big red scars and blisters for about a week....so....I guess shaving is a pain in the ..u know what... but I'll never use it again...

Could it possibly be that I have successfully evaded the marketing associated with a new women's grooming product?

I can speak only as a a female who has been shaving her legs since age 13. While I'm prolly less hairy than you all (um, I sure hope so anyhow...) I need to deal with it as a lifelong daily chore. (Which is my choice...some women prefer not to shave their legs. Go sistah!)

I think I've used a chemical hair removal product twice. The first time, it sucked. The second time, it still sucked but I didn't want to think the first time was a fluke.

ANyhow, I swear buy the triple-blade setup with a moisturizing strip. Also, Exfoliate! Using a shower flower or a loofah sloughs off a lot of dead skin so that you don't get ingrown hairs. And to keep those nicely groomed gams looking great, I recommend Nivea products. I think they may even have a line specifically for men.

Thanks to you all you guys who take the time and effort to look nice. Shaved or not, it's a nice touch.

Well I primarly race cyclocross and I wear a long sleeve/short trunk skinsuit for the season. I also train durring the road season, not big on group rides but I will tag along of the pace suits me, I also have not raced road. Regardless of all the I like to remove my leg hair, just my preference.

I typically shave takes 20 mins? But I do want to try "moom" http://moom.com
It is a natural hair removal product inbetween wax and sugaring, no animal products nor tested on them. Unlike that of gillette and others, another topic another day.

The other day I made a chamomile flower bath after I shaved, this worked very well in keeping my sensitive skin hydrated, cuts down on the 'red bumps' and felt great. Yes I have alot of spare time.

It's a triple blade imbedded in a bar of soap and moisturizer. I've got ythe blue one for sensitive skin. Works absolutely great. 2 minutes in the shower and you're done. No shaving cream and squatting in front of the sink (now there's a visual you didn't want burned into your concious mind) with a razor.

I get mine real cheap; we make the product. But, I don't usually by Schick. This is the first one I actually like and it's great.

If you go standard razor, the Gilette Mach3 turbo is excellent.

I don't race much either, but one of the reasons I shave is because it looks good. Nothing looks uglier, IMO, than some guy using high-quality cycling equipment with hairy-ass legs.
Smooth legs complete the cycling motif.
I use mach 3 with normal shaving creme. I'm able to get a nice shave in less than 15 minutes.

Jeez... I sure started an interesting threat... thx folks for all responses so far...

I've used Mach 3 (not the Turbo) yesterday, shaving legs for the first time in over 7 months... Took me about 20 minutes...PER LEG... but now I look 3 mph on average faster :D

No... I recently had a "knee down" incident which resulted in a nice temporary "tatoo" on my right knee... All being said and done, the healing process was hampered somehow with the hairs around the knee... Now I am smooth and the perverse notion of having less pain after the next crash somewhat eases the assuring fear that the next crash is inevitable. :)

I'm just laughin'...

...because despite the differences of all the posters on here, we have all the makings of a completely innoccuous Junior High slumber party. "Hey! So, like, Trisha and Stephen, let's watch WCP videos because OMG!! Marco is like SO FINE!!! And then we can do makeovers on each others' legs!! And then my mom will make caramel corn that is completely based on Maltodextrin!! And then I can do your hair while you're on the trainer! YAY!!"

Hi!
I just tried Nair for Men, for the first time, last night. It worked great! My never before shaved legs took about 20 minutes. They are now as smooth as a baby's butt.
I don't understand all the negative commentary here. My guess is either some of these people have sensitive skin or they are not following the instructions. You must follow the instructions carefully. Pay attention to the part about trying it on a small area first.
I left it on for exactly 5 minutes. I jumped in the shower and wiped it off, in one direction, with the rough side of a wet washcloth. Almost everything came off on the first try. I had to get a couple of missed spots with a razor. After I was done, I coated my legs with J & J 24-hour Baby Oil (white stuff, not clear). I'm good to go.

I use a Mach 3, I use older blades that I've retired from use on my face (since my hair is much coarser there) but are still plenty sharp enough for the legs. I just use soap when I'm in the shower. I usually only shave up to my shorts line, but every week or two I'll get the tops of my legs as well.

Shaving only takes maybe 5 minutes in the morning during my shower, and usually I'm not in a big hurry to get out of the warm water anyway, so instead of standing there with a dumb half-asleep look on my face, I shave.

Man, I couldn't do that... First in the morning I am Kramer and need to have a mental list of what parts of my body I've washed if I don't want to do it over and over again... And adding another variable to that list would screw things up for me...

Second, I would probably end up cutting myself in the morning anyway... I've even given up on the face in the morning (unless absolutely positively necessary). I shave at night after ride... More time, less rpone to mistakes...

Anyone given electric, wet razors a try ?

Try a better razor. I find it really really really difficult to cut myself with a Mach 3. It's very easy with those single blade disposables.

I also shaved for years as a competitive swimmer, and I quickly discovered that a better blade is worth the cost. Especially when you shave your head, head hair is really really thick.

It's too they bad they don't make Nair for our faces! Just smear it on, wait 4 minutes take a shower and your done-closer than a blade and may not have to "shave" again for at least 3 days.
