SONOMA, Calif. (IMMEDIATE RELEASE) - Ben Standish took the first victory of the year Thursday night in the first round of the Infineon Raceway Spring Cycling Series.
Santa Rosa's Standish (Dewars Racing Team) topped Darin Divine (GS Lombardi Team, Mill Valley) and Joshua Litwack (Kentfield), who claimed second and third, respectively, in the A Race. Standish and Divine worked together to pull away from the group after tackling the brutal climb to Turn 2 on the 10-turn road course.
The A and B race covered nine laps over the 1.99-mile course, the same circuit used for the Dodge/Save Mart 350 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup event, which will take place in June.
Petaluma’s Peter Nicholson (Eastside Cycles) won the B race and Novato’s Kristin Drumm (Proman/Paradigm) took first in the women’s division. The event attracted nearly 30 cyclists.
The second event of the four-round Spring Cycling Series will take place at Infineon Raceway on Thursday, April 13. More than $5,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded throughout the Spring and Summer Series. Gates open at 5 p.m., with registration at 5:15 p.m., and the race starting at 6:15 p.m. Cost is $15 per competitor.
