There's only one shop in that area that I know of. Its Brothers Cycles on Northern Blvd. in Little Neck across from the old theater. I think they are a Trek/Lemond dealer and may also carry Specialized. Real old skool family bicycle joint. Why don't you take a ride out Brands in Wantagh since they are a supermarket and will have the most models to check out.
