As hard as the race is, why are they resting today? Typically the rest on a Sunday. Is this another way Giro is making the race harder, to bike 10 straight days, mostly in the mountains.

because they are crazy.

The first rest day was after basically no racing, just to get out of belge and down into italia. Now we gots this.

I think we're gonna see the team cars start carryin spare legs along with wheels.

The UCI requires 2 rest days, which I don't like in the first place, but it's as good a place for it as any. I am glad they didn't stick it in the last week and pussify the manliest stage race of the year.

I've spent a lot of time in Peschici where the stage finished and it is tough to get in and out of there by road and pretty much impossible by air. Those very curvy roads that you saw them racing on to the finish are the only roads in and out of there. The drive from Peschici to any kind of highway where you can make any progress is over one hour.....and that's with normal traffic. Add post-stage finish traffic and it would be pretty bad. They could take a boat over to a larger city, but again...you'd have the riders travelling for several hours at least just to get out of there. Given the fact that the next stage is a full day's drive away from Peschici and the logistical problems of getting the riders out of Peschici, you need to have a rest day unless the next day's start is from Peschici.
