Up till now, I was kind of bored with this year's Giro, but today was pretty cool. Tonkov earned a contract for next year. Garzelli showed some guts. How in the hell did Brad McGee finish second? Depending on how old he is, if he can win prologues and climb with Simoni, Gonchar, and Garzelli, he should think about winning a grand tour and ditch the track racing.
What happens if Cunego gets time on Simoni in the time trial?

He'll get mugged by the Simoni hooligans during the last week. :-)

He might have a good chance of winning the whole thing. Only one mountain top finish left. The big question is whether he'll melt down in the last week. Anyway, his chances are looking better than Garzelli's.

He needs to be aggressive. If he waits until Simoni attacks, he'll be obligated not to follow and drag others with him. If he attacks first then Simoni will be forced into the same position. Then if Cunego has the legs to make the attack stick, he'll win the Giro.

Read his comments in the velonews site. He comes off as quite the respectful 'student', willing to sacrifice for the master. Simoni said as long as the pink jersey stayed with Saeco, it was all good.

I'm still bummin' about Mario dropping out, though. Crappy way to end his possibly last Giro.
