I need a new front hub. My Am. Classic hub (POS!!) has given up for good...it's wobbleness (a word??) almost made me crash on a 50mph descent today. It's gone!

My LBS offered to rebuild my wheel with an Ultegra hub at $34.95 for the hub. Here's my dilemma: I have Campy Record components everywhere except my front hub. My gloves are Campy, my bibs are Campy, I have an ergobrain, hell, if I ever got a tatooo it would be Campy. Get the picture??

Do I take the hub and just ignore the name or get another hub?? For a second question: I need reasonably priced hub suggestions that you can use to build an 18 spoke radially laced wheel. Hence, Campy hubs won't work.

Since you asked, if I were you, I'd get anything but Shimano. If you're that much of a Campy freak, I'd think that you"d look at, and hate, that Shimano hub every time that you got on the bike.

For what it's worth, I suspect a true 18 hole hub is going to be a hard find. Why not just get a 36 hole Campy and lace up every other hole on each side? You won't have any warranty against breaking out the hub flanges, but you wouldn't have any warranty with the Ultegra hub either.

I won't leave the Holy Church of Campy. I would regret my decision everytime I looked down. My LBS inferred that lacing an Ultegra hub radially was OK. Maybe its OK but not warranted. Time to buy Campy. Phew!! I won't get excommunicated.

I'm well in the minority here, but I've had a couple of full Campy bikes, and none of them worked noticeably better than my present mishmash of Shimano parts. I'm not knocking Campagnolo--the stuff was great--but it's just bike parts, not magic.
On the other hand, if you're going to throw up every time you glance down at the hub . . .

You're committed. You were free to do what you pleased up until you mentioned you have Campy gloves. That's the proverbial wedding ring.
Anyways, an Ultegra hub can be bought for $30 bucks. Go ahead an have it built radially. Yes, the warranty is shot, but many people have put many thousands of radial miles on Ultegra and Campy hubs. If it fails, no real big tragedy. Plus, I think you could find a wheel builder that WOULD warranty the wheel even when Shimano won't. Ask around.
