i am looking at either the fusion or deep v wheelset for race only(maybe some fast team rides). the front wheel is offered only as a 24h drilling. i'm185/190 cat4/30+ i generally am pretty tough on my equipment. will the rim strength hold up? also any opinions on the hubs for these velocity sets. thanks for your imput.

The Deep V rim is popular with the cyclocross crowd. It is the most indestructible road rim I have used. I assume your looking at Velocity's factory wheelsets? They are pretty heavy for a race only wheel (2000 grams). The rear is 32h and should take some abuse. The front is 24h and, combined with the strong rim, should be fine... No experience with the hubs but supposedly they are Formula hubs. They use cartridge bearings. Not sure about the engagement design of the freehub...

FWIW, I go 190 lbs. and have used both the Fusion and Deep V for tons of commuter miles and plenty of singletrack trail rides with no issues...

will the rim strength hold up?

We run a set of Deep V rims on our tandem. Rolling weight of my wife, my fat butt and the bike is 300#. We have the Deep V laced up with 36 spokes F/R and I have not touched the wheels with a spoke wrench in over 6000 miles. I would not be concerned about the rim strength.

I'd say go either 28/28 or 28/32 if you're hard on equipment. I'm about the same weight, but not so hard on my stuff. 24/24's been fine for me.

Better safe than upset...
