I just found out that I will probably be coming to Texas for four days (Sept 14-17) for business meetings. The Fri/Sat/Sun meeting will last until noon which gives me six hours until the required dinner to do whatever I want. At last years meeting in Colorado Springs, I spent three afternoons in a row on a mountain bike up in the...well...mountains. Can I do that in Gaylord, Texas?? I will be staying at the Gaylord Texan Resort. What's nearby?? Any cycling?? If I can't ride, what else is there to do in the area?? Any input would be appreciated. My wife may come with me which would limit my riding to one day at best.

I'm asking becuase I have the choice not to attend. It's not that I don't appreciate an all expenses paid long weekend at a resort...its' just that I was planning to do a two day ride/camp thing the weekend before with some friends. There is no way I can be gone two weekends in a row. If the Texas thing sounds boring, I'll go with my friends the weekend before. Either way, it sounds like I have two great choices.

Paul, PM me. There are plenty of things to do including riding. My office is 5 minutes from the Gaylord

I went to high school in Grapevine - the North Shore Trail on Lake Grapevine is a great mtb ride - 15-20 miles of challenging singletrack - whatever you do it'll be hot

Dave I'll be in Texas in November - would love to know what routes you reccomend in the area - haven't lived there in a long time now but am back usually twice a year every year

still haven't been up to Muenster

There are plenty of road routes, but maybe not so much scenery, a la Colorado, etc.. Strangely enough my office is also 5 minutes from the Gaylord! I'll meet you for a ride if you want a guide. We can probably talk some of the other DFW areas members into joining us.

Mad Duck Cycles is just down the road on Hwy 26. They have rides that go from the shop and might be able to hook you up with a rental if you want one.

As for non-cycling stuff, you pretty much need to either go into Dallas or Ft. Worth proper to find anything. There are hundreds of good restaurants all over. The mid-cities is lacking in anything other than strip malls and chain restaurants.
