View Full Version : Agh! Moral (rim) dilemma!

Hi, I'm new! I'll introduce myself more thoroughly soon, but now I have an important question to ask (need to order some rims by tonight -- vacation tomorrow).

I am building some new wheels, switching over to clinchers for training. I just ordered a pair of Velocity Aeroheads but am thinking now perhaps the Velocity Fusions would be better -- they're more aero (which I like), lighter (which I also like), and are only a few more dollars expensive.

I can go back tonight and change my order, but I'm unsure if that's the right thing to do. What do you all think? Should I stick with the Aeroheads? Are there problems people have had with the fusions?

Thanks for any help. I really appreciate it.

The aero difference is very negligible, that doesn't come into play until the rim profile is very tall. The Fusions may built a stiffer wheel due to taller profile/shorter spokes but again this may be a very small difference. You're fine with either one really, the Aerohead is a proven rim and if you do have a problem with them Velocity has been good about warrenty replacements and replacing in case of any defect.

The Fusions are not lighter then the Aeroheads but they are stronger.

Are you sure? QBP lists them as lighter. I don't really doubt that you're right that much (the fusions DO use more material) but I would like to see where you're getting the info.

thanks:)

QBP lists the aeroheads at 425 grams and the fusions at 480 grams. I have also weighed both rims and the standard aeroheads are 420 to 430 grams, the aerohead oc is 410 to 420 grams and the fusions have been 470 to 485 grams.

Huh, I must have misread the catalogue. Doh.

between the weight difference, what about spoke difference?

You calculated the different sizes needed between the two rims?

If you've got spokes coming/in hand I'd stick with the Aeroheads.

IME they're good rims.
