Does Stage 13 give any teams new hopes as to grabbing yellow in Paris? I know there is a certain weight on the team's shoulders when someone has the maillot jaune, but was it a mistake for Phonak to let the break get THAT far ahead? I know Floyd id only 1:30 down now with eth Alps to come, but ask Levi what one bad day can do to ya...

it's worth the gamble giving it up to be better prepared to defend against Robobank. Mechnov has much better mountain support that Landis, so Phonak needs to be rested and not beat down from chasing long breaks. I'm sure Oscar P and Popo are quietly thinking about a return to form in the alps, which could give Phonak troubles, but I think Landis was actually holding back at the end of the tough stage a few days ago, not wanting to get the jersey just yet.

...I think Landis will get plenty of support in the mountains from other guys in the peloton. Someone on this board, I believe, has already suggested CSC as the co-conspirator on behalf of Landis' Yellow interests, and I'm inclined to agree. I've been sipping strawberry mojitos on the beach for the past couple hours so I might be in la la land , but I get the impression that Armstrong and Bruyneel would like to stick it to Floyd, and Riis wants Floyd for next season and would like to stick it to Bruyneel.

I don't think Armstrong or Bruyneel want to stick it to Floyd at all. I think they'd still like to sign him.

jokes about Hincapie (for his lisp, no less) and Lance in Floyd's Bicycling interview with Zabriskie. He also points out that an American doesn't need to be on an American team anymore. It really doesn't sound to me like he's terribly interested in joining Disco.
