Hi everyone, I'm wondering if it would be possible to lace a 20 hole rim onto campy record hubs, which only come in 28 or 32 holes. It seems like a stupid question to me, but I thought I would ask anyway :D

OK I'll admit it, I'm trying to save the weight of those 8 spokes.

Why not just buy a 20h hub?

No go.....Nyet..............No way.
It might work if you could find a 40 hole hub.

Sure it's possible. You'll end up with multiple spoke lengths, a very strange spoking pattern, very uneven spoke tension, and a not very durable wheel, but it's possible. While you're thinking of it, how about going (nearly) radial, and void the hub warranty at the same time? :) Otherwise, Grumpy's advice holds.

How about going radial AND color coding each spoke by length??

Don't attempt this. The weight of 8 spokes? Flanges are engineered to a given thickness based on the max load per spoke. Get a 20 hole hub or a 32 hole rim and stop thinking that dropping 8 spokes worth of weight will make a difference.
