Once again, fat chance. He's probably another Nigerian scammer, a country which we have no extradition treaty with. Square Trade is nothing but a scam site, so they wouldn't care-scammers make money for them. Caveat emptor......

I have found the following website quite informative and quite frightening really.

You know, it never ceases to amaze me-despite all the news stories about internet scams, all the warnings on internet trading sites, etc., etc., people still want to believe that some guy who can't speak english worth a sh*t is really willing to pay you 3x what your bike is worth, or, on the other hand, the same guy is willing to sell you his bike for 1/4 what it's worth, and ship it from Timbuktu as long as you send him money by western union. Unbelievable!

OK, for those who still haven't got the message, here it is:

SENDING MONEY BY WESTERN UNION IS THE SAME AS SENDING CASH. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A GOOD REASON TO TRUST THE PERSON ON THE OTHER END, YOU ARE GOING TO BE RIPPED OFF!!!

There......

Ok, Again the message is ANYTHING OTHER THAN PAYPAL SHOULD BE TREATED AS A SCAM. I've never been scammed but we must get this message across. No reason in the world why a seller can't open a paypal acct and no reason why the seller can't take the bike to an LBS of your choice near his home. If the merchandise is overseas, just don't buy it. Sorry, it's new world Internet reality. It's the only way to get rid of the scammers.

Not quite correct! I've been buying/selling bike stuff for years and while I have a PayPal account, I don't use it for expensive sales or purchases. My preference, though it can be inconvenient, is USPS money orders. They are very inexpensive and cashable at the Post Office or the bank.

IF you are careful. do due diligence, don't be greedy (and fall for the 'much cheaper than anywhere else' thing), a buyer/seller can successfully negotiate the scammers pitfalls and and have a good transaction.

Yes, I would agree. Probably more important is the sellers willingness to take the bike to the LBS for an inspection, your due diligence point taken. I'm looking for a specific BMW conv and have seen first hand the number of scams. Their getting smarter and just barley underpricing. Lots of different so called secure sites they want you to send money to to hold the car. My point of seeing the product first before any money changed hands dealt w/ high priced items like this. Yes, we would not use paypal however, everything I've purchased online under around 2k has been paypal and all sellers accepted this. Thanks for all your good input and knowledge regarding these scams.

True, you can get some good deals using other methods than PayPal. Unfortunately, most of the scam dupes that post here wouldn't have a clue if one came up and bit them on the @$$. Those who are fiscally retarded should stick with the advice here and not even consider buying online.
