View Full Version : Flight Deck Problems After Riding In Rain

I got caught in a heavy rain storm about 10 miles into a 50 mile ride on Saturday. Sometime during the ride, my Flight Deck started misbehaving. After the ride, I cleaned the bike, dried it off and put it into a dry environment for the weekend, but the problems have not miraculously gone away.

The main problem is that the STI buttons elicit no response from the Flight Deck. Also, the shift indicator shows the rear cog selection correctly, but not the front chain-ring. SInce my battery was about 2-3 years old, I replaced it and reset mileage and all the settings. I have also tried removing the head and replacing it a few times in case the contact was not good. The A and B buttons seem to work fine and I can use them to change settings and cycle through the display options.

Any ideas about what the problem could be and how I might easily fix it?

If it were me, I'd pull the hoods off the levers and remove the button pads, then dry those (gently) with a hair drier to see if it makes any difference. The buttons are moderaly well-sealed, but if water gets in, those same seals may keep it from getting out.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it but no dice. I am hoping that the problem lies with the harness and not the shifters, since the circuitry seems to be on the harness side. So I'll buy a new harness (opportunity to upgrade to wireless) and hope it works. I need to re-wrap my bar tape anyway.

Tell us if all goes well. I have Flightdeck too.

My Cateye Astrale 8 went partly bad because of rain - it now often give an incorrect high max speed reading. I checked my adjustemnts but don't know what happened. My Trek RADAR was destroyed by rain.

So I hate biking in the rain because it tends to mess up bike computers.
