Don't give up so soon. I have a 1989 steel Spectrum that is primarily built
with Ishiwata quad-butted tubing. Ishiwata is no longer in business and haven't
been for several years I would guess. Ishiwata never had the marketing status
that the bigger tubing manufacturers had BUT they did produce high quality
chro-mo tubing and they were the company of choice by Tom Kellogg of
Spectrum Cycles to produce custom drawn chain stays, and maybe seat
stays as well. This in itself is a testament as to how good Ishiwata tubing was
because Spectrum Cycles produces frames that are above 1st class; Spectrum
produces life time frames that are nothing short of works of art of the very highest
quality available! I believe Fuji also used Ishiwata tubing in their high end frames
back in the 80's. Basically it was high quality tubing that was easy to work with
and would produce a frame that was strong as nails and was in no way inferior
to Columbus or Reynolds or any other tubing; They just didn't have the marketing
clout that the others enjoyed because it was a fairly small company.

Blue Boy,
I have a thread by the same name in Bike Forums. It's gotten two pages of comments and images. You might take a peek. :aureola:
I have included some of your valuable comments in a feature on my own website, below.
