I can do the calcs (or read the charts) as to what is legal, but what ring/cog do most actually use with a 650c bike?

Thanks,
TF

Been a while since my kid was small enough to race a 650c bike. I left the stock chainrings on the veloce triple. I started with him using the original cassette 12-25 and blocking out the 12 cog so he was running 52x13. Later found him a 13-23 cassette which was not too expensive so he could run all 8 speeds and avoid huge gaps in the cassette.

Not sure if a 53 tooth chainring would have worked. I could rollout my wifes bike if your calculations are right at the 7.93 mark and test it for you in real life.

One hint if you are screwing in the limit screw to blockout the first cog; completely unscrew the limit screw, remove the spring, put a dab of loctite on and screw back in. Without the spring it goes in farther.

Here in the midwest officials rarely rollout the juniors. In his 2 1/2 seasons racing I can only remember him being rolled out a few times:

At a LAJORS race.
At the track the night before a Junior Nat weekend.
At a race where he was the only junior and the official wanted to roll him out since he had taken the time to measure the rollout line. My son had forgot to block his gears since he just finished the 4/5 race, however the official forgot to shift the chain into the big ring for the rollout.
