I commuted a few times prior to today but I never have gone this far by bike for work. I wish I had started sooner. Today was one of those beautiful mornings in the Central Valley (California). Just cool enough to ensure you didn't sweat but by no means cold.

When I started up my first hill, I wondered if what I was doing was sane. Why not just zip down US 50 and get there FASTER. But once I hit the MUT and hit 20 mph on my first downhill, I knew I made the right choice.

Everyone on the MUT was happy and I was greeted by many. I can't remember one greeting in 2.5 years fighting cars on US 50. Songbirds made a much better soundtrack than any CD I had in my changer. And when I nearly ran over two deer on the MUT, I knew that maybe just taking a little bit longer to work everyday was just what I needed.

I was a little surprised that I need a second breakfast shortly after arriving at work, but that's a small price to pay for peace of mind at work. While I spent nearly a whole additional hour commuting to work today, everything seemed to go by more quickly. I am looking forward to many more days of bike commuting.

40 miles of biking never seeemed so fun!

Is that 40mi round trip or one way? Either way, enjoy your second breakfast – you earned it. Don’t forget to have a second lunch either – getting home is what it’s all about!

Today was my 4th time. I ride 15 miles each way. It was a little misty, but still a nice ride. I started out riding 2.5 miles to catch the bus, but then decided to go the whole way. I love it and wish I had started doing it sooner.

Keep up the good work.

40 mile round trip, actually 41 (I stopped at the pub!) I learned today that a second lunch is in order, I bonked about 14 mile in. It's a learning process I suppose.

Saw a GIANT turkey on the MUT today. Sucker wasn't the least bit afraid of me either. It's the little things that make biking to work better the driving.
