I weigh 192lbs, and just purchased the LOOK 585. Does anyone know if there is a weight limit on any of these new carbon bikes?

Does anyone know if there is a weight limit on any of these new carbon bikes? absolutely no weight limits on any Look bikes, if they don't hold up to a big rider they don't build them Look at Thor he rides a stock 585, and he's massive! manhattanproj 08-06-2006, 07:56 PM Look at Thor he rides a stock 585, and he's massive! not exactly. check his profile, he may be tall but most certainly not massive. he's way too skinny for a 6'4'' guy. massive should never be used to describe pro-cyclists. these guys are as weight conscious as models. i don't think anyone is over 190 in the tour. Archiee Dogg 08-06-2006, 09:35 PM Well, Thor is listed at 180lbs....I weigh 190-195 (fluctuate) pounds. I rode the LOOK for the first time today. Maybe it was me.....not that impressed. I really enjoy the ride of my Ridley Damocles better. Maybe I need to get used to it, I dunno? sirbikealot 08-07-2006, 01:08 PM not exactly. check his profile, he may be tall but most certainly not massive. he's way too skinny for a 6'4'' guy. massive should never be used to describe pro-cyclists. these guys are as weight conscious as models. i don't think anyone is over 190 in the tour. Thor at 178lbs will still generate 5 times the power of the guy asking the question and regardless like i said Look has no weight restrictions, i work with Look, this is a fact acid_rider 08-07-2006, 07:24 PM I think I read someplace quite recently that Thor's Look is specially beefed up 585 and Tom Boonen has a similarly beefed up Time. I believe they are standard geometry frames albeit heavier/stronger. Magnus Backstedt (who has a beefed up Bianchi FG-Lite, alloy) is the heaviest rider in pro-peloton, AFAIK, he is over 90kg. I would stick to strong and heavy alloy bars, alloy stem, metal saddle rails and metal seat-post, if you are ~200#+. Do not play games with weighweenie components, they are silly light and break more easily. There will be some people over 200# who disagree with me when it comes to using silly-light components but it's your life so you call it. Remember that Thor, Tom, Magnus get about 3-4 frames to destroy each season. Caveat Emptor. lsthe3 08-08-2006, 06:11 AM Archiee Dogg, Interesting.............. I am looking at either a Ridley Noah or the Look 595. I had my heart set on the Noah then had someone at wrenchscience direct me to the 595. They said they dropped the Ridley because they were having feedback of the Ridleys getting squirley. I to am the 185lbs with considerable power outputs and am dying to get good advice on my next high end racing frame. rensho 08-08-2006, 02:06 PM Also consider the Ultra version of the 585 and 595. The Ultra is 15% stiffer. Same cost. Archiee Dogg 08-08-2006, 06:43 PM ISthe3, test ride the Damocles prior to your purchase. You will really like it. That is a speed demon...really. I will (of course) try the LOOK 585 again. Maybe I was just having a bad day....I dunno, but I will try again this weekend and let you know. Trust me, try the Damocles. Sirbikealot, is it true Thor has a beefed up 585? I dont have one of those and I weigh more than he does. Now, I'm getting concerned. |
