Lefevere considers action against Landis

The president of the professional teams association and Quick.Step team manager Patrick Lefevere has put forward the idea of legal action against Floyd Landis for damaging the sport of cycling. "Actually, we should take him to court for what he is now doing to cycling," said Lefevere to Sportwereld.be. "Why not? Why not take the American approach of dealing with things and apply it here? As long as Landis continues to maintain that he knows nothing, this sort of scenario becomes more likely. I feel like throwing up when I hear him. Landis has turned the clock back 20 years."

Lefevere also called for the removal of Phonak from the ProTour, citing its 10 doping cases in the last three years. "Look, one doping case per year is possible to explain, but ten in three years? Teams like that should be out of the PorTour. I had warned the Tour management before the start of the Tour. I'm certainly not a judge and the fate of Phonak is not yet sealed, but I would gladly like an explanation."

Skoda pulls out of Tour sponsorship

The Tour de France has felt the first big financial effect of the Floyd Landis affair, with its main car sponsor Skoda choosing not to renew its contract when it finishes at the end of 2007. The Czech car manufacturer said that while it was "generally content with the sponsorship" it didn't want its image to be associated with doping scandals such as the one involving Landis.

Skoda, part of the Volkswagen group, has been sponsoring the race since 2004, when it took over from Fiat. Its sponsorship of the world's biggest bike race has helped increase its visibility in several key European markets.

Jesus Christ Lefevere is a hypocrite. How about he starts with cleaing his own house of dopers before he starts worrying about the damage Floyd has done to cycling?

I don't know about the sweeping changes McQuaid is talking about but a good one would be that if you're caught doping even a single time, once retired you're not allowed to hold any position with a UCI registered cycling team.

...if you're caught you're out. No cushy director sportif positions. The problem with the way cycling is run at the moment is that those in control aren't really all that serious about cleaning it up. It's being run a bit like an old boys club – too many hidden agendas, too many backhanders, and too many excuses and extenuating circumstances. If I was running the sport there would be no second chances...

So you agree with this imbecile? This is all Floyd's doing? Last I checked, there were a whole host of riders that weren't even allowed to start the Tour and some of them were rated 1,2 & 3 as GC contenders.

I want those that criticize the 'conspiracists' to tell me what they think this is from Lefevere! Sounds pretty close to being one to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with everything that has something to do with cleaning up the sport. I'm sick of hearing excuses from Landis and his supporters as to why he is not guilty/responsible/accountable for the fact that he failed a doping test in this year's Tour. And yes, the more he tries to deny his knowledge of the incident, the more credibility he loses. Sometimes principles/ideals/your name/pride is not worth fighting for. At the end of this mess the likely outcome is that he'll be done for doping and he would have spent a lot of money trying to defend himself and/or appealing against a pretty watertight case. He's also doing the sport a disservice, so yes, I agree with Lefevere even though he is hypocritical.

Even if he is guiltless, he should cry Uncle? So first he souldn't expect the lab, WADA and the UCI to act within the rules and not release the information until it is conclusive, now he should wave his rights to appeal and prove his innocense?

I guess he'll be planning legal strategies against virenque, vandenrouke, and museeuw too.

While we're piling the blame on Floyd we should take him to task for the problems in the Middle East and North Korea. Oh and he lives in San Diego; he's probably responsible the the 20-30 million illegal aliens in the US. I'm sure he runs his own underground railroad. :mad2:

I'm filing suit against Floyd for global warming. It's all his fault. As long as Landis continues to maintain that he knows nothing about global warming, I feel like I have to pursue this scenario. I feel like throwing up when I hear him. Landis has turned the clock back 20 years.

I tell ya' what, if this diatribe by Lefevere doesn't lend credence to a conspiracy, I don't know what else would. Well except maybe a picture of McQuaid and Pound shaking hands while the tests were being performed on Landis' samples. Something ain't right here!
