At one of my favorite LBS’s today, the place was all abuzz about Discovery becoming an all American team. When I asked when this was to take place, I was told for the coming race season.

I see nothing on the Disco web site or anywhere else. Anyone heard this or rumors?

Even if they wanted to go that direction, I don’t see how it’s possible this or even next season due to rider contracts, etc.

What a concept!

This is not happening, so whatever your LBS guys told you, they're wrong. And frankly, it will never happen. There aren't enough ProTour level Americans to make up an all American team these days. This is a lame story told to you by people who don't know what they're talking about.

I agree with magnolialover,

It's a nice concept, but it isn't going to happen. However, they will try to retain an american as the team leader for the TDF, hence the reason for bringing in Levi. He's the top american rider now that Landis is all but gone.

That's probably what they overheard, but as with all rumors, they tend to get distorted quickly.

I really loved 7eleven thru early stage of USPS kept it mostly Americans but those were the good ol days. Once a team becomes a contender you can forget about a one country team. You be lucky to get 50% of the team from one country.

Though it’s a dream for me and maybe for some, It would be cool to see Levi, Julich, Zabriski, Hinicapie, Van DeVelde, Rodriguez, Horner, Danielson, and Cruz all in one team. But the question remain, will it be a chemistry? I doubt it.

The coming race season?

Didn't they just sign, um, Thomas Vaitkus, and Sergio Paulinho?

Yeah, I agree with all of you. In fact I told my wife (who was excited at the NEWS) when we got to the car that these guys had their “facts” screwed up. It would be virtually impossible to field a TDF team – not to mention a full racing roster. And yes Disco did just sign the two aforementioned.

Well, it was good for a few minutes. (My wife still believes it and has been on the net for 3 hours trying to get the scoop.)

You're lucky; you know a real live girl who likes cycling. Let her believe.
