Good interview with Simeoni:

Expressing an opinion similar to what I've said here before. The dope testing has actually become enough a deterrent that the level playing field of the 90s when everyone was on EPO has now become disjointed again and a nobody like Gutierrez can suddenly be a somebody with the right investment. So with enough money you can get an advantage and still not come up positive.

He had some of the most well reasoned comments about doping I have seen, and none of the best defense is a good offence bluster that LA brought to the subject.

Probably because they're truthful rather than the BS that is typically thrown around.

As always, very insightful.

Simeoni is not afraid to tell it like it is. Interestingly, he echoes what many have hinted at in this forum. That is, in the 90's with everyone doping, the best riders still won. Mostly because the doping was so widespread, and not all that specialized. Now, only the well off can dope. I bet that's why the team leaders are all getting caught.

I for one really hope that he keeps riding for a few more years. It'd be pretty special to see him win something, though I know the peloton wouldn't let him.

Sad, huh?
