Looking at a custom wheel build. I always liked custom versus off the shelf items. I've been using customs all my time while mountain biking. I'm still new to road bikes... Looking for a nice wheel that will last several years.

Front hub: DT-swiss 240 28H radial
Rear hub: DT-swiss 240 32H
Spoke: Sapim CX-Ray
Rim: DT-swiss RR1.1

I Have a question on spoke counts for road wheels. WHat is typical counts? I know in mountain bike the rule of thumb is 32, 3 cross. Unless you want to play with fire and want high maintance wheels.

Some questions:
1.) What about radial lacing, I have discs for mountain bike is it's a big no no
2.) Is 28 H radial going to be too wobbly?
3.) Will 32 H radial be better?
4.) What about using a 28 H rear instead of a 32 hole?

I want a wheelset that is good for sprints and climbs, hence the RR1.1 versus an aero wheel... After much research this is pretty much what I want, except I'm unsure about lacing and spoke counts for road bikes. I weigh 170 lbs.

1) It's fine if the hub is designed to take it... you will be using a rim brake, not a disc.
2) Should be fine
3) More spokes will make the wheel stiffer and stronger... except with radial there will be a greater chance of the flange failing.
4) 32 is better for the rear.

If built with the heads on the inside of the flange radial is actually stiffer laterally then crossed patterns.

I never knew that... Cool.
