View Full Version : Trying on bike shorts
topflightpro 08-30-2006, 10:05 AM I'm curious, when you try on shorts at the shop, do you try them on over your underwear, or do you take your underwear off?
Leaving the underwear on would be more sanitary but isn't likely to give a true representation of the fit.
jabpn 08-30-2006, 10:16 AM It's fine. It shouldn't make that much of a difference unless they're boxers. I would return a different day with thinner underwear/briefs. Always wear underwear. If you don't think about what, you, could be trying on.
JayTee 08-30-2006, 10:47 AM Yep, underwear. Same goes for women's bathing suits, even though you don't wear underwear in actual use.
fleck 08-30-2006, 11:33 AM I've never tried them on...
just bought and wore.
besides, they fit better after a few wears anyway...
i'm more conserned with the quality of pad in there.
I've only ended up with one pair of bibs that don't fit. Too lose, sized for height not for scrawney guy.

It was asked...now everytime I buy a pair of shorts I'm gonna wonder if some wanker was wearing them naked.

omniviper 08-30-2006, 12:51 PM easy! ask for a pair of shorts that is sealed in plastic. Try it on. If it doesnt fit, put it on the rack. Pity the guy that picks that up and whistle an innocent tune.
xrazer 08-30-2006, 05:41 PM We have notices posted in all dressing rooms that the law requires the use of underwear to try on shorts, bathing suits etc.
toomanybikes 08-30-2006, 05:48 PM I'm just going to go put the Knicks I bought today into the washer - with Lysol or something.
AAAaackkk!

EEWWWwwwwwwwwwwww.
BMF136 08-30-2006, 05:56 PM The only time I tried on bike shorts was when I bought my first pair. After I knew what size fit me well, I kept buying the same size, even amongst different brands. So far it has worked out fine and they have all fit perfectly. Yes, I wore underwear to try them on!
toomanybikes 08-30-2006, 06:15 PM OK - here's the question going right back to the OP
What ever happened to common sense??
Surely the answer to this one should have been obvious??

Ok, here's why I asked this question.
I was visiting my mother two weeks ago, and she wanted to buy me some new bike shorts. But she wanted me to try them on first, so I did, keeping my boxers on.
Bike shorts don't fit well over boxers, and it was so awkward, it got me thinking, when people try them on, do they keep their underwear on or not?
